Previewing technologies that it says lay the foundation for autonomous trucks, Continental last week offered a peak into the world of its research and development efforts around next-gen truck tech.
The German-based tire and component supplier provided a two-day preview in Frankfurt, Germany, of systems it plans to more fully debut later this year at the IAA Commercial Vehicle show in Hannover, Germany. Some of the platforms are ready for deployment in Europe in the coming years. Others are still in development, slated for implementation in the coming decade. The bizarre “sonic attacks” against diplomats began in Cuba, but have now spread to other countries with over 200 illnesses reported. It all started in the fall of 2016 when diplomats at the United States Embassy in Cuba reported some hearing loss and mild brain damage after hearing unusual and puzzling sounds.

Some of the worst wildfires in Colorado history have raged this summer, with new ones flaring up daily. Thus far, the massive Spring Creek fire–the third worst in state history–has burned over 104,000 acres southwest of Pueblo, the Burro and 416 fires near Durango have burned over 61,000 acres, and other fires burning in central and northern Colorado have consumed more than 40,000 acres. For several weeks, wildland firefighters have been battling the 416 fire which is still only 45 percent contained, and there is no end in sight for the Spring Creek fire, which today is only 5 percent contained. A report in the Canon City Daily Record, described the Spring Creek blaze as “a flood of fire” which has destroyed more than 250 homes. A jury found five self-described antifascist activists not guilty of two separate misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a violent attack on a Trump supporter in March 2017 at the conclusion of a contentious trial at the Alameda County Superior Courthouse in Oakland, Calif. Oakland is a short distance from Berkeley, Calif., which was the scene of multiple violent clashes involving Trump supporters, free-speech activists, and other right-leaning patriots on one side and bands of antifa, anti-Trump activists, and other radical leftwing groups on the other. PHOENIX – The American Trucking Association says trucks moved more than 70% of all freight shipped throughout the United States and generated 719 billion dollars in revenue last year.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump is set on Monday night to announce his nominee for a lifetime position on the U.S. Supreme Court, with four conservative federal appellate judges as the top contenders to succeed retiring long-time Justice Anthony Kennedy.
The Republican president, with an opportunity to further put his stamp on the court with the second appointee of his 18 months in office, is expected to choose among four judges with strong conservative credentials: Thomas Hardiman, Brett Kavanaugh, Raymond Kethledge and Amy Coney Barrett. Australia’s Minister for Social Service, Dan Tehan, announced July 1st, the Australian Government will monetarily penalize any citizen whose children are not up to date on their vaccinations. The penalty, in the form of a reduction of government payments, amounts to $56 (AUD) monthly.
Called the “No Jab No Pay” program, Australia aims to increase compliance with government mandated vaccination programs by taking money away from its citizens. Parents who refuse to vaccinate their children may continue to do so under religious or medical grounds, but will not be allowed to keep the money they were previously receiving from the government. Donald Trump’s personal driver for more than 25 years says the billionaire real estate developer didn’t pay him overtime and raised his salary twice in 15 years, clawing back the second raise by cutting off his health benefits.
Noel Cintron, who is listed in public records as a registered Republican, sued the Trump Organization for about 3,300 of overtime that he says he worked in the past six years. Hundreds of thousands of migrants are waiting in Libya to cross the Mediterranean to Europe, according to Britain’s National Crime Agency.
It warned that Italy’s refusal to take stranded ships had created a bottleneck of 700,000 waiting in the North African country.

Port-au-Prince (AFP) – Scenes of anarchy alternated with tentative signs of a return to normal life in Haiti’s capital, with calls for a general strike Monday after two days of deadly looting and arson triggered by a quickly-aborted government attempt to raise fuel prices.
