The White House unveiled plans Tuesday to extend the availability of higher biofuels-blended gasoline over the summer to curb soaring fuel costs and to cut reliance on foreign energy sources after the consumer price index data showed inflation at a 41-year high.

The first commercial case of bird flu in Kansas has been confirmed at a turkey farm in McPherson County.
Kansas Department of Agriculture officials say the turkey farm was placed under quarantine after workers noticed signs of bird flu, or avian influenza, among their flock. The birds will be “humanely … disposed of” to prevent the spread of the disease, the release said. NEW YORK (AP) — Five people were shot Tuesday morning at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York, law enforcement sources said.
Fire personnel responding to reports of smoke at the 36th Street station in the Sunset Park neighborhood found multiple people shot and undetonated devices, a New York City Fire Department spokesperson said.
