In a video promotion used September 14 in an effort to attract the 2024 Olympics to Los Angeles, the city’s bid organizers presented LA as “the northern capital of Latin America.”
They also described the city as “the western capital of the U.S.” and “the eastern capital of the Pacific Rim.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti said, “Hosting the Games in Los Angeles would give our city the chance to show the world how much has changed in 40 years. This bid is a bold vision for an innovative, sustainable and inspiring Los Angeles 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games that will benefit our community, the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Movement.”
The claim to being “the northern capital of Latin America” comes just over two months after the LA Times reported that Latinos now outnumber whites in California. On July 8th the Times reported that 2014 census figures show “that as of July 1, 2014, about 14.99 million Latinos live in California, edging out the 14.92 million whites in the state.”
The census figures indicate that “the country’s Latino population is now 55.4 million…[and that] California and Los Angeles County have the largest Latino populations of any state or county in the nation.”
These reports came as no surprise to those who have monitored the influx of Latinos into the US and California. Robert Suro–director of USC’s Tomás Rivera Policy Institute–simply said, “This is sort of the official statistical recognition of something that has been underway for almost an entire generation.”

Used to go to the OC when I was a kid. Boogy boarded with my brother everyday (Long, Seal, Venice.) Ask a senate member or state congressman their favorite memory as a kid…..it will start in Vera Cruz……Your country es goooone….but, you’re obviously racist if you can remember things like that…..
