McDonald’s plans to give employees four hours of bonus pay to get the COVID-19 vaccine, the first major fast-food employer to announce incentives to encourage inoculation.

The incentive is available to employees at corporate-owned McDonald’s in the U.S. About 5% of McDonald’s 14,000 U.S. restaurants are corporate-owned, while the rest are franchises. Salaried corporate employees who get vaccinated will get four hours added to their paid time off bank.

An unprecedented number of people who are legally barred from owning guns managed to buy them in 2020 through the so-called “Charleston loophole,” according to data obtained by the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety.

The “loophole” allows gun dealers to complete sales after three days if a buyer’s background check has not been completed by the FBI. If the agency later determines that the buyer should not have been allowed to get the gun, it refers the case to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which is tasked with recovering it. In what one leading digital rights advocate is calling “the largest expansion of corporate surveillance in human history,” Amazon has begun installing artificial intelligence-equipped cameras in some of its partners’ delivery vehicles to monitor drivers while they work, a move that is raising broader concerns about privacy and corporate power.

CNBC reported Wednesday that Amazon’s AI-powered, four-lens cameras—called Driveri—are being tested in a handful of contracted delivery vehicles. The cameras are manufactured by Netradyne, a San Diego-based startup, and record 100% of the time while vans are operating. They watch and record not only the drivers, but also the road and what’s happening around the vehicles.
