“…if I had foreseen the use those people designed to make of their victory, there would have been no surrender at Appomattox Courthouse; no sir, not by me. Had I foreseen these results of subjugation, I would have preferred to die at Appomattox with my brave men, my sword in my right hand.” ~ Robert E. Lee

Amen! May the lesson be well learned and not repeated.
Paul, thank you for posting.
R.E. Lee is on the top ten list of great American Heros.
Reason being, besides the obvious…..
This great man was truly a man of HONOR.
Which is sorely missing these days.
Like G. Washington, Lee, and several others, put
others first. I highly recommend two books.
1st George Washington’s Sacred Fire by Dr. Peter Lillback
2nd A Defense of Virginia and the South by Dr. R.L. Dabney.
Dr. Lillback spent 15 years writing his book.
And Dr. Dabney was Washington’s personal secretary.
America needs more men like these great men, NOW
more than ever.
MEN who know what’s needed and how to deliver.
“May God Bless the Republic, and raise up MEN to
lead us towards the RESTORATION there of.”
