Anti Gun Hypocrite Mark KellyAmmoLand – by AWR Hawkins

Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- On February 6th 2014 former astronaut Mark Kelly testified in favor of more gun control before Oregon’s legislature, then went target shooting at the Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct Range.

Talk Show host Lars Larson reported this on February 7th, after the Portland Police tweeted a photo of Kelly shooting a handgun at the range. The tweet was deleted from the Portland Police account when it began drawing attention, but the gun control group founded by Kelly and wife Gabby Giffords still has a post on its website ( http://tiny.cc/7yt2ax ) about Kelly shooting at the Portland Police range.   Continue reading “Hypocrite Mark Kelly Testifies in Favor of Gun Control, Then Goes Shooting”

ROSEVILLE, CA –-(Ammoland.com)- Following numerous reports of improper arrests and firearm seizures throughout California, Roseville-based gun rights group The Calguns Foundation has issued a new warning to gun owners in the Golden State.

“Gun confiscation efforts pushed by Attorney General Kamala Harris have apparently led to unconstitutional arrests of regular, non-prohibited gun owners as well as the seizure of their firearms and ammunition,” said Brandon Combs, the group’s executive director and creator of the Foundation’s DOJ Watch project.   Continue reading “California’s Gun Confiscation Program Hits Firearm Owners Hard”

Mayors once part of former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns [MAIG] continue to leave the organization in droves, citing attacks on the Second Amendment and law abiding citizens as the reason for exiting.

Mayor John Tkazyik of Poughkeepsie, New York is one of the group’s most recent defectors. Writing in the Poughkeepsie Journal this week, Tkazyik explained in detail that Bloomberg’s anti-gun organization isn’t about enforcing gun laws, but instead about promoting gun confiscation.    Continue reading “Mayors Leave Bloomberg’s “Gun Confiscation” Organization in Droves”

Nanny dogs, meet the nanny state. Now keep apart, you two.

Six states are considering bills that would put an end to laws restricting dog ownership by breed. Called “breed-specific legislation” — or BSL — these laws most often target pit bull type dogs (which are said to have been called “nanny dogs”), often forcing people to choose between their pets and their homes. And most Americans think they’re bad laws. Bad laws!   Continue reading “Six More States May Outlaw Breed-Specific Legislation, Making Everything Better For Pit Bulls”

ATLANTA (AP) — Medical marijuana has been a non-starter in recent years in the Deep South, where many Republican lawmakers feared it could lead to widespread drug use and social ills. That now appears to be changing, with proposals to allow a form of medical marijuana gaining momentum in a handful of Southern states.

Twenty states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana, and this year powerful GOP lawmakers in Georgia and Alabama are putting their weight behind bills that would allow for the limited use of cannabis oil by those with specific medical conditions. Other Southern states are also weighing the issue with varying levels of support.   Continue reading “Medical Marijuana Gains Momentum In The Deep South”

Nearly half of U.S. states have legalized marijuana in some form, whether medical or recreational. But marijuana remains illegal under federal law, and as a result, the legitimate businesses selling the drug are subject to sky-high tax rates.

Dispensaries can’t deduct traditional business expenses like advertising costs, employee payroll, rent and health insurance from their combined federal and state taxes. That means dispensary owners around the U.S. often face effective tax rates of 50 to 60 percent — and in some states, those rates soar to 80 percent or higher, according to members of the pot industry who spoke to The Huffington Post.   Continue reading “The Feds Won’t Legitimize Pot, But They’ll Still Tax The Hell Out Of It”

A bill meant to stem deaths from heroin overdoses advanced in the New York Senate Tuesday, just days after actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died of an apparent drug overdose.

Sponsored by State Sen. Kemp Hannon (R), the bill would increase access to naloxone, a special drug that can reverse overdoses from heroin and other opioids. Introduced before Hoffman’s death, it passed out of the state Senate’s Health Committee unanimously on Tuesday.    Continue reading “Heroin Overdose Prevention Bill Advances In New York After Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death”

It is just after New Year’s when 61-year-old unemployed software executive John Walters and I meet for coffee. We’re there to discuss his interest in moving from the “straight” world of corporate enterprise software sales to the rough and tumble, still embryonic legal cannabis industry.

John, a tall bespeckled northwesterner with close cropped hair, begins by telling me about a recent holiday gathering that he and his wife attended in their Shoreline, WA, neighborhood. Recreational marijuana is legal in Washington, but the social protocols of its use remain uncertain. “Do you fire up at the party?” John ponders. “Do you offer your host a box of joints?” The nuances of integrating legal marijuana use into polite society — and business life — are being worked out in living rooms and board rooms across Colorado and Washington.   Continue reading “Faces Of Legal Marijuana: Unemployed Software Salesman Goes For The Green…Rush”

Cities: Bloomberg 2, water, 2012The Guardian – by Beth Gardiner

From his high-profile smoking and transfat bans to the creation of new parks and bike lanes, Michael Bloomberg‘s 12 years as mayor were a time of innovation and change in New York. Besides such high-profile measures, there were also less visible efforts, like the drafting of a long-term resiliency plan for city.

Fresh out of office, the billionaire businessman, never short of ambition, has broadened his sights to the lives of city-dwellers around the world. With migration to cities increasing nearly everywhere, the data-driven Bloomberg believes improving conditions in big urban areas is the best way to make an impact on the largest number of people. Bloomberg is redeploying many top members of his mayoral team to Bloomberg Associates, a consultancy that will, free of charge, advise cities on how best to tackle their problems, adapting and applying the approaches he used to make New York greener and more livable.   Continue reading “Can Michael Bloomberg’s New York manifesto change the world?”
