As you may have heard, yesterday the FBI “uncovered” yet another of its own terrorist plots, the latest in a very long line of “terrorist plots” the FBI has “uncovered” — in which the details always show that it was an undercover FBI “informant” (often doing this to get off leniently for some other issue), who more or less goads hapless, naive people, into a “plot” that had no real chance of ever happening. This appears to be the same sort of thing.

Still, politicians never leave an opportunity like this unexploited, and so in jumps Senator Dianne Feinstein, arguing that the only proper way to deal with this is to, of course… censor the internet:   Continue reading “FBI Uncovers Another Of Its Own Plots, Senator Feinstein Responds By Saying We Should Censor The Internet”

Nevada courts are out of cash because police are not writing enough speeding tickets. State Supreme Court Chief Justice James W. Hardesty sounded the warning before the state Joint Subcommittee on General Government on March 11, telling lawmakers that the coffers are running dry at an alarming rate.

“We thought the decline would be about three or so percent,” Justice Hardesty explained. “We budgeted for a five percent decline in the budget that the governor recommended. We now believe based on the numbers we’re seeing that the decline will actually be ten percent. This is a serious problem, not only for the Supreme Court’s budget, but also for those budgets in the state general fund that are supported by administrative assessments.”   Continue reading “Nevada Needs More Traffic Tickets To Pay Judicial Salaries”

Georgia’s implied consent law may not be around much longer. On Friday, a unanimous state Supreme Court laid the groundwork for a future ruling that could effectively nullify the statute that imposes automatic punishment on motorists who refuse to provide a blood sample or breath test upon demand. The implied consent law helps police investigate drunk driving (DUI) cases by allowing what are considered searches under the Fourth Amendment to take place without a search warrant.    Continue reading “Georgia Supreme Court Questions Implied Consent Law”

Today in a pre-trial hearing, an Ohio judge casually agreed with a motion filed by a prosecutor asking to ban a defendant from bringing up the United States Constitution or the constitutionality of the law under which he is charged with a crime.

Judge Catherine Barber (or Kathryn Barber), a retired judge filling in for theXenia Municipal Judge Michael Murraystated “there will be no mentioning of the Constitution” and then laughed when the defendant claimed that uttering words on a public sidewalk constitutes free speech. (The audio of the hearing can be found here: http://bambuser.com/v/5372976).  This was in response to a suggestion from the prosecutor that bringing up the constitution and civil rights “will confuse the jury.”   Continue reading “Ohio Judge: There Will Be No Mentioning Of The Constitution Here”

Does protecting America’s lucrative genetically modified seed corn industry warrant the use of national security laws intended to fight terrorists and government spies?

On March 28, MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry suggested the push away from gun control and toward expanded gun rights–which means more armed, law-abiding citizens–actually puts police lives in danger.

Harris-Perry read a summary from a recent Department of Justice report on police activity in Chicago and New York City. She then specifically focused on Philadelphia police, whom the report claims “averaged about one shooting a week from 2007 to 2013.” She said that during this time period “the percentage of unarmed suspects shot by the police increased from 6 percent to 20 percent.”   Continue reading “MSNBC: Police Lives In Danger Because Of Armed Law-Abiding Citizens”
