In July 2010, a former Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office deputy pleaded no contest to a charge of committing lewd acts with a child when he was an officer two years earlier.

Shawn Theo Thomsen, then 43, was given a five-year suspended sentence, court records show. Now living in Texas, he’s required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.   Continue reading “Despite Convictions and Guilty Pleas, Law Officers Keep Certifications for Years”

Security researcher Hristo Bojinov placed his Galaxy Nexus phone face up on the table in a cramped Palo Alto conference room. Then he flipped it over and waited another beat.

And that was it. In a matter of seconds, the device had given up its “fingerprints.”

Code running on the website in the device’s mobile browser measured the tiniest defects in the device’s accelerometer — the sensor that detects movement — producing a unique set of numbers that advertisers could exploit to identify and track most smartphones.   Continue reading “Stanford researchers demonstrate how smartphone fingerprint sensors can be used to spy on you”

A major new report detailing the global crackdown on peaceful protests, both through excessive police force and the criminalization of dissent. The report is called “Take Back the Streets: Repression and Criminalization of Protest Around the World.” It was put out by the International Network of Civil Liberties Organizations.

The name of the report, “Take Back the Streets,” comes from a police report filed in June 2010, when hundreds of thousands of Canadians took to the streets of Toronto to nonviolently protest the G-20 summit. A senior Toronto police commander responded to the protests by issuing an order to, quote, “take back the streets.” Within a span of 36 hours, over a thousand people—peaceful protesters, journalists, human rights monitors and downtown residents—were arrested and placed in detention.    Continue reading ““Repression and criminalization of protests around the world” report details a global crackdown on peaceful protests”

If you aren’t in the ag world, you most likely haven’t heard about the devastating loss that ranchers in western South Dakota are struggling with after being hit by winter storm Atlas.

For some reason the news stations aren’t covering this story. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t. This story has heartbreak, tragedy and even a convenient tie into the current government shutdown. Isn’t that what the news is all about these days?   Continue reading “Pain You Can’t Even Imagine”

As I indicated in my last blog, I’ve decided to join the ranks of the reloaders and start making my own ammo. Since I’m starting from scratch, that means shopping for the equipment that I’ll need to get started. I’ve done a lot of research to learn which of the many options will work best for a beginner like me.

Reloading presses come in three basic configurations — single-stage, turret, and progressive. They vary in purpose, complexity, and price. The place to begin with the purchasing decision is to evaluate your needs, budget, and skill level. There’s a press that’s right for everyone, but what’s best for me might not be best for you. Here’s the rundown on each type:   Continue reading “Ammo Reloading Presses for Beginners”

SHTFThe Prepper Project – by Sam Coffman

Dennis jumped on his mountain bike and pedaled as fast as possible through the brush and onto the short trail that would take him directly to the back door of his house in the growing evening darkness. Either his radio or batteries apparently had just chosen this inopportune moment to give out. Traversing the trail quickly on the bike was something he could do even in complete darkness however, as he had traveled it at least twice daily even before the collapse. Less than two minutes earlier he had spotted a truckload of armed men using his binoculars. Dennis knew they were raiders . They had running lights on and he doubted they had night vision equipment. The truck was turning into the entrance of his small, otherwise empty neighborhood and starting up the first hill.   Continue reading “How US Special Forces Would Secure Your Home When SHTF”

The Aviationist – by David Cenciotti

Images have surfaced on the Chinese Internet of what seems to be an actual AH-64D Apache or a real-size copy of the world’s most famous attack chopper.

The helicopter, on a truck, seems to be in the process of being moved even if it is at least strange that it is is not hidden below a protective covering, as happened for other mysterious choppers spotted on the move in China.

It’s not easy to guess how Beijing put their hands on the helicopter. It could be one of the U.S. Army Apaches downed or crash landed in Iraq, that was later fixed and exported in China.   Continue reading “A U.S. Apache attack helicopter appears in China. Did they clone it?”

New Jersey –-(Ammoland.com)- The weekend of October 11-13, 2013 I attended the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C.

As I prepared to leave my home in New Jersey early that Friday morning, I began the process of cleaning out the car and loading up my packed bags. With my suitcase, garment bag, and laptop case safely secured, I reversed out of my driveway and began my three and a half hour journey to the nation’s capital.   Continue reading “How I Almost Became a Felon”

Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)-  As previously reported, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners has been considering a misguided resolution calling upon the Michigan Legislature and Governor Rick Snyder (R) to repeal Michigan’s “Stand Your Ground” law, and to create additional regulations that would further restrict your Second Amendment rights and inherent right to self-defense.

While consideration of this ordinance was postponed at their last meeting, it is scheduled to be considered at their next meeting on Wednesday, October 16.   Continue reading “Michigan Washtenaw County Board to Consider Anti-Self-Defense Ordinance Wednesday”

While the US continues to bumble its way towards a debt ceiling crisis (somehow our President doesn’t have time to meet work on solving this, but does have time to make sandwiches with volunteers and give press statements about how we wants to work), Europe continues to make us look good by comparison.

Remember how we were told time and again that Europe was saved? Remember how repeatedly we were told that the European Central Bank (ECB) would do “whatever it takes” to fix things?   Continue reading “Surprise! Europe’s Banks Are STILL Totally Insolvent”

Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)- Greetings in freedom!

First, a huge thank-you to all of you who picked up a phone or sent an email to your legislators last week.

Government exists by the consent of the governed (you and I) it is to be of the people, by the people, for the people. Its a shame we can’t just do our moral, civic duty.. pay attention to candidates, believe their promises, vote on election day, and count on our elected officials to represent the views THEY said they held and that we sent them to Madison to act upon.   Continue reading “Wisconsin Carry Important Update! Vice – by Brian D. Aitken

At 6 AM, the sky outside my apartment is still purple-black. It’s too early. I stagger out of bed and stand under a scalding jet of water in the shower, trying to remember where I’ve been, where I am, and where I need to be. Oklahoma. Austin. Houston. In less than eight hours I have to climb a stage and tell a roomful of strangers my story. As far as stories go, it’s pretty interesting, I guess. It’s got thrills, heartbreak, what technically counts as crime, and even a little bit of vindication. But telling it wears me out. Living through it was more than enough.   Continue reading “My Life as a Convicted Gun Owner Who Did Nothing Wrong”

When people think of the average EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card user, they envision a career welfare recipient who has 12 kids by 11 different prison-residing fathers.  Because of this notion, when the story broke this weekend about the EBT system failure, many of the responses were quite cold, callous, and even downright spiteful.

Of course, the rioting through Wal-Marts across the nation certainly didn’t help.  Within hours the shelves were razed. The abandoned shopping carts of melting food and the carefully selected hungry spokespeople on the mainstream news just served to reinforce the conception that those who were left to go without groceries deserved to miss a few meals.   Continue reading “The “Average” EBT User May Not Be Who You’d Expect”
