Peace activists have set out on a three-week ‘Long March on Newport’ to protest against September’s NATO Summit. Police say they have drafted in 9,000 officers to face the protesters in one of the UK’s biggest ever police operations.
More than 20,000 activists from around the world are expected to take part in demonstrations during the summit, where a week-long peace camp and a counter summit are among some of the events planned in what has been billed as Wales’ largest protest in a generation. A college student threatens to drop out of Dartmouth over the university’s refusal to allow her to carry a handgun on its campus in New Hampshire.
Taylor Woolrich, 20, says the university refused her request to carry a concealed firearm on campus to defend herself from Richard Bennett, 67, who she claims been stalking her since she was 16.
Bennett is currently sitting behind bars in California on charges of violating a restraining order filed by Woolrich.
‘Every morning I check the inmate lookup online to see if he has made bail,’ Woolrich told Fox News.

Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- His walk in the park was no walk in the park, so to speak, but a Wisconsin man’s public stand against unlawful open-carry restrictions seems to be having the desired effect: his county is changing its policy.
The man, Bill Polster, recorded himself on a walk through Calumet County WI Park last month while he carried two guns, and after 10 minutes, he was confronted by law enforcement.

HELMETTA – Richard Recine’s 36-year career as a police officer came crashing down this week after he was caught on camera saying police do not have to follow the Constitution because President Barack Obama doesn’t either.
On Thursday, Recine — who had retired from the Franklin police force in 2006 and was working part time here as a special police officer — submitted his resignation.
“I don’t want to give a black eye to law enforcement,” Recine, 59, said Thursday in an exclusive interview with MyCentralJersey.com. “People are saying some really nasty stuff about cops. A young woman is mourning the death of her boyfriend, who was shot by her cop father on Tuesday night.
Lisa Kepler, 18, is the daughter of Shannon and Gina Kepler, both 24-year veterans of the Tulsa, OK, police force.
At a news conference on Wednesday, Lisa said her parents kicked her out of their house about a week ago. She stayed at the Tulsa Day Centre for the Homeless. NOAA’s Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Hawaii and Maui Counties in Hawaii on August 6 at 12:00 UTC as hurricanes “Iselle” and “Julio” continued on their path toward the islands. Weather officials said Iselle isn’t weakening as previously predicted.

Millions of cubic meters of water, sand and chemicals, which were released into the waterways of British Columbia, Canada, from a breached mine tailings pond have led to a total water ban for residents in the area of the incident.
Some 10 million cubic meters of water and 4.5 million cubic meters of fine sand from the tailings pond of the Mount Polley copper and gold mine spilled over into lakes and creeks in the area on Monday, according to a statement by the British Columbia’s Environment Minister Bill Bennett, released the following day. Fryeburg is a small town in Maine – that has quickly become ground zero in Maine’s looming water wars.
After Nestle built a nearby bottling plant, Nestle (in this cause in the guise of Poland Springs water) wanted to drill a new well in nearby Denmark, ME, and pipe water to a water-loading station in a Fryeburg residential area.
