Politicians—who claim to be for limited government and free markets—are engaging in an insidious plot to seize homes from families and give them to the Taiwanese manufacturing giant Foxconn. Not surprisingly, the plot is being hypocritically championed by those who claim to be for ‘small government,’ like President Donald Trump, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, and Paul Ryan.
The factory will be used to manufacture LCD screens for iPhones, iPads, and other electronic devices. It’s being sold to the population as a means of creating jobs, but it’s hardly going to register as a blip on the job market especially considering the billion dollar endeavor that it will take to create it. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been talking to members of Congress about using DNA testing to verify whether children crossing the southern U.S. border are biologically related to adults they arrive with, or if they are being smuggled into the country by human traffickers, Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council.
“Sessions is talking to congressional members and is hoping for a legislative fix,” Perkins said, adding that the DOJ would like to see “just, fair and enforceable” immigration policies. To that end, “They are looking at how to use DNA tests in the field to verify they are parents and not traffickers,” according to Perkins. Continue reading “Human Trafficking? For the first time in over 20 years, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review the constitutionality of civil forfeiture laws, which allow the government to confiscate cash, cars, and even homes. On Monday, the court granted a cert petition from Tyson Timbs, who was forced to forfeit his $40,000 Land Rover in civil court to the State of Indiana, after he pled guilty to selling less than $200 worth of drugs.
Like too many Americans, Tyson was addicted to opioids, at first taking prescription painkillers before switching to heroin. When Tyson tried to sell undercover officers four grams of heroin, he was arrested in 2013. As punishment, Tyson agreed to serve one year of house arrest and pay $1,200 in court fees. But the state also wanted his Land Rover, which Tyson had bought with life-insurance proceeds after his father died.
