The Internal Revenue Service and other U.S. agencies awarded about $415,000 in contracts to a license plate-tracking company before Homeland Security leaders dropped a plan for similar work amid privacy complaints.
Federal offices such as the Forest Service and the U.S. Air Force’s Air Combat Command chose Livermore, California-based Vigilant Solutions to provide access to license plate databases or tools used to collect plate information, according to government procurement records compiled by Bloomberg. One of the main issues arising out of the Bundy Ranch fiasco, is the underlying issue of allodial title in all states that has been ignored by the federal government and most state governments.
Allodial title is “non-feudal” title. At America’s founding, this was commonly termed as “fee simple absolute.” When the Treaty of Paris was signed, there were many meetings with the English Parliament to explain that we would NOT be under a feudal form of land (or other property) ownership where the government, kings or other “nobles” actually held primary ownership of all land. Despite reported efforts to silence conservative viewpoints, social media sites like Facebook remain the most accessible forum through which the public can express its views. Developments regarding the Bundy Ranch situation, for instance, have been shared extensively by users despite the fact that many mainstream media sources have largely ignored the story.
Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, who some reports suggest has a financial interest in the Bureau of Land Management’s action against the Bundys, recently indicated that the situation is “not over,” leading many to prepare for a federal raid on the historic ranch. In response to the announcement, patriots on Facebook proved they are not only capable of using the site to spread important news; they also provide plenty of pointed criticism of those they feel deserve it. Did you know that two other men accompanied Paul Revere on his famous midnight ride? If you didn’t, then you’re not alone. The story of the midnight ride was stamped on the American psyche by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s popular 1861 poem “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.” And anyone who’s read the poem envisions a lone hero dashing through the night, single-handedly warning his countrymen of a British attack. Continue reading “What happened to the two other men on Paul Revere’s ride?”
Government officials are only people, subject to all the infirmities and limitations involved with being human. Some are insane, others myopic, others power hungry, and a few are men and women of good purpose. The problem with government officials being fallible is that, in the case of the United States, 300 million people depend upon them always doing the right thing. The militarized siege of a cattle ranch near Bunkerville, Nevada has drawn national attention as dozens of federal agents, armed with machine guns, sniper rifles, helicopters, and more, have descended on the ranch to seize cattle, people, and generally show everyone who’s boss.
The conservative press has framed the story in a variety of ways, casting the story both as matter of outright federal seizure of private land, and as an absurd environmental crusade to save a tortoise from extinction. Continue reading “Ranchers and Empire in the American West”

In a speech delivered at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government on Tuesday evening, White House Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Adviser Lisa Monaco said it could help prevent terrorism if parents watched for “sudden personality changes in their children at home.”
“President Obama has been laser-focused on making sure we use all the elements of our national power to protect Americans, including developing the first government-wide strategy to prevent violent extremism in the United States,” said Monaco, in a transcription posted by the White House. The police state grows. Angela Kirking, a 46-year old woman living in Shorewood, Illinois does face-painting for children at local fairs. She also enjoys growing hibiscus plants for her own consumption. Apparently, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) believes her shopping for fertilizer and supplies at a local store called Midwest Hydroponics made her a very serious subject for investigation.
It seems that Ms. Kirking was so threatening, that after being observed shopping at her local hydroponics store, police agents staked out her home, sifted through her garbage, monitored her electricity usage, and finally busted into her bedroom in the middle of the night pointing guns at her, demanding to know if there were any illegal substances in her home.
