Eric Matthew Frein, 31, of Canadensis, is “extremely dangerous” and residents in the area should be alert and cautious, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said at a news conference in which he revealed the suspect’s name.   Continue reading “Hunt on for survivalist charged in trooper killing”

Just the other day I purchased a bag of roasted peanuts, sensing my mouth water in ancipation of the salty goodness. Wrong! I had accidentally bought the unsalted version. Folks, there are few things less tasty than an unsalted peanut, unless it’s unsalted grits (yep, I’m southern). The reason I was subjected to such a monstrosity is that for years, the medical profession has been telling us that salt is bad and will cause high blood pressure and other health woes if we don’t watch our intake.

But is that really true? A new study in the American Journal of Cardiology was conducted by Saint Luke’s cardiologist James O’Keefe of the Mid-America Heart Institute and James DiNicolantonio, also of the Mid-America Heart Institute. The researchers found that sugar, not salt, is the true enemy of heart health.    Continue reading “Salt Is Not the Enemy. Guess What Actually Ruins Your Health Instead?”

Taiwan displayed how its fighter jets and early-warning aircraft could land, refuel and take off on a closed motorway yesterday in a scenario simulating a mainland attack that wiped out the island’s air force bases.

The exercise, the first of its kind since 2011, was a reminder of lingering mainland hostilities towards the island despite warming ties between the two rivals.

“The scenario of the drill was that the air bases were severely damaged after intensive bombings of ballistic and cruise missiles by the Chinese communists,” Major General Hung Kuang-min said.    Continue reading “Taiwanese fighter jets land on highway in ‘China attack’ war games”

US President Barack Obama surprised his visitors, the delegation of Eastern Christians patriarchs, on Thursday when he told them that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “protected the Christians in Syria.”

Nazareth.

An image speaks a thousand words – and that is presumably what Israel’s supporters hoped for with their latest ad in the New York Times.

Two photographs are presented side by side. One, titled ISIS, is the now-iconic image of a kneeling James Foley, guarded by a black-hooded executioner, awaiting his terrible fate. The other, titled Hamas, is a scene from Gaza, where a similarly masked killer stands over two victims, who cower in fear.   Continue reading “ISIS is Israel’s Key Ally Against a Palestinian State”

DARPA continues to develop an array of robots designed for the battlefield. Naturally, one of their slated applications is to chase human prey.

In February, 2011, DARPA first announced its next-generation robot called the Cheetah; it was heralded as the world’s fastest legged robot. In fact, its speed of 28.3 mph was faster than the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt. (Washington)  Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday slammed President Barack Obama’s strategy for combating Islamic State militants and said the president needs to significantly step up military action against the terrorist group before it comes to the United States and “we all get killed.”

In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Graham said the Obama administration is “delusional” for thinking it can counter the Islamic State, a terrorist group in Syria sometimes called ISIS or ISIL, primarily through expanded air strikes and by training Syrians for ground combat.   Continue reading “Lindsay Graham Says ISIS Could Wipe Out Humankind”
