Billionaire Microsoft co-founder and Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen apparently doesn’t get everything he wants – at least not yet.

A Soviet Scud surface-to-surface missile was a no-problem purchase for him at $349,000. A rusty and inoperable Cold War-era M55 self-propelled howitzer was a comparable bargain at $45,000.

But when it came to an authentic Panzer IV, a World War II-era German tank, Allen, an avid collector of historical military planes and other equipment, has had to go to court in Redwood City, even after paying $2.5 million for it.    Continue reading “Paul Allen sues after $2.5 million tank purchase blows up”

There is an array of research that seeks to create super soldiers. Back in 2010, a plan was announced to install transcranial ultrasonic mind control devices into soldiers’ helmets in order to boost alertness, as well as relieve battle stress and pain. The Department of Defense has also been working on an augmented reality creation called iOptik, which would enhance a soldier’s biology by offering simultaneous fields of vision, while enabling full data integration. Then of course there was T.A.L.O.S. an Iron Man-like suit that incorporates biometrics, liquid body armor that can change into bullet-proof solid skin, an exoskeleton for improved strength and speed, as well as the latest in augmented reality computing. There even has been discussion of genetically modifying soldiers to not require food and sleep.    Continue reading “DARPA’s Jet Pack Gives Supersoldiers a 4-Minute Mile”

Since the Wheat Belly revolution, people all over the world have reported amazing results: being able to reverse type 2 diabetes, shedding layers of dangerous visceral body fat that encases the organs, and revving up to super-charged energy levels. But we started to wonder…how does ditching wheat – and all grains for that matter – impact the brain? We turned to William Davis, MD, best-selling author of Wheat Belly and the mastermind behind the new Wheat Belly Total Health, to learn more about the benefits of the grainless brain.    Continue reading “Ditch the grains, heal your brain”

The most common health complaints and concerns from people worrying about oil and gas drilling and fracking are neurological (headaches, dizziness), respiratory (cough, nose bleeds) and gastro-intestinal (stomach aches, diarrhea).Eco Watch – by Anastasia Pantsios

A new study provided more ammunition for what public health experts and environmental activists have been saying since fracking became widespread in the last half decade: chemicals used in the natural gas drilling process can be hazardous to health.

The study “Proximity to Natural Gas Wells and Reported  Health Status: Results of a Household Survey in Washington County, Pennsylvania,” published yesterday in Environmental Health Perspectives, found that people who live near fracking sites have more health problems than those who don’t.   Continue reading “Fracking Literally Makes People Sick, New Study Finds”

Lava from one of the world’s most active volcanos soon could reach three vacant lots in a rural subdivision on Hawaii’s Big Island, but officials are hopeful homes will be spared. Based on the lava’s movement of about 200 to 300 yards a day, the flow from Kilauea volcano was expected to reach the lots in Kaohe Homesteads in coming days, Hawaii County spokesman Kevin Dayton said.

The large lot closest to the flow is owned by the state, while the other two are privately owned, he said. “The fact that it’s veering somewhat to the north as opposed to the east is a hopeful sign,” Dayton said.     Continue reading “Lava on Hawaii’s Big Island creeping up on vacant lots in rural subdivision”

AUSTIN, Texas — A twenty-four year old Mexican national named Heriberto Montoya-Merino was deported back to Mexico earlier this month  by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Montoya-Merino was wanted in connection with a murder back in Mexico.

Montoya-Merino had been residing in Bradley Beach, New Jersey until he was arrested on November 19, 2013. The Bradley Beach Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office coordinated with ERO to detain him and process the deportation order, which was issued by an immigration judge in July of this year. ICE Air Operations (IAO) arranged a charter flight from New Jersey to Texas, where ERO officers turned him over to Mexican authorities at the Brownsville Port of Entry. He had previously been deported back to Mexico in 2013 and had reentered the United States illegally.   Continue reading “ICE Officials Deport Mexican National Wanted for Murder”

Pope Francis leads his weekly audience in VaticanYahoo News – by Stefano Rellandini

REDIPUGLIA Italy (Reuters) – Pope Francis said on Saturday the spate of conflicts around the globe today were effectively a “piecemeal” Third World War, condemning the arms trade and “plotters of terrorism” sowing death and destruction.

“Humanity needs to weep and this is the time to weep,” Francis said in the homily of a Mass during a visit to Italy’s largest war memorial, a large, Fascist-era monument where more than 100,000 soldiers who died in World War One are buried.   Continue reading “Pope says world’s many conflicts amount to piecemeal World War Three”

On August 13th, 2012, a pitbull mix was shot by police in broad daylight in the East Village, as its owner was collapsed on the sidewalk suffering a seizure. That pitbull, Star, nipped at a woman and ran towards an officer at one point, in an apparent attempt to protect owner Lech Stankiewicz (you can see very graphic video of the shooting here). The dog was shot in the head, resulting in her losing an eye as well as sustaining “soft tissue, bone, head trauma, and eye damage.” No one thought she would survive the ordeal, and most of us seemed to forget about her—except for Charlie Cifarelli. It is currently peak season for the puss caterpillars, and even though they usually live at a safe distance high up on tree branches, reports of people being stung are on the rise.

The one-inch puss caterpillar is named for its cute cat-like fur, but it is the most venomous caterpillar in the United States.

Although they appear to be furry and soft, the caterpillars actually have a defense system of poisonous bristles that can break off into your skin if they are touched.   Continue reading “Venomous Caterpillar Sighting In Florida Prompts Warning”

Redding police have arrested a man accused of killing and cooking his estranged girlfriend’s dog and serving the animal to her in a meal.

The suspect, Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh of Palo Cedro, denied killing or cooking the victim’s missing Pomeranian. But he admitted placing dog paws on the victim’s doorstep, police said.

Watenpaugh, 34, was arrested Thursday by law enforcement officers from three agencies, police said. A search of his home found a Romanian variant AK-47 assault rifle and high-capacity magazines, officials said.   Continue reading “Shasta County man accused of cooking, serving up estranged girlfriend’s dog”
