LOS ANGELES (AP) — Protesters rallied in dozens of cities Saturday as part of a global protest against seed giant Monsanto and the genetically modified food it produces, organizers said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said those who thought Russia was trying to restore an empire and the Soviet Union simply incorrect. “That opinion is wrong, I don’t think it’s anything that corresponds with the truth but a tool in the information war,” Putin said at a meeting with international media bosses in St. Petersburg. “People are trying to label us as such, that we’re trying to restore the empire, the Soviet Union, to bring everybody under our influence. But this us totally inaccurate,” he said.

GOLETA, Calif. (AP) — A California gunman who went on a rampage near a Santa Barbara university stabbed three people to death at his apartment before shooting to death three more in a terrorizing crime spree through a neighborhood, sheriff’s officials said Saturday.
The three people in the apartment were among the six left dead Friday night during the shootings near the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Arthur Boorman was a disabled veteran of the Gulf War for 15 years, and was told by his doctors that he would never be able to walk on his own, ever again… He stumbled upon an article about Diamond Dallas Page doing Yoga and decided to give it a try… Even though doctors told him walking would never happen, Arthur was persistent. He fell many times, but kept going… getting stronger rapidly, and he was losing weight at an incredible rate!

A Chicago police sergeant who met a drunken woman during a domestic dispute, drove her home, bought her wine on the way, then returned to her apartment with more booze after his shift ended says he “feels terrible” the woman shot herself to death that night with his gun.
Sgt. Steven Lesner — who pleaded guilty Friday to several misconduct charges — told a Chicago Police Board hearing officer that he was in the bathroom urinating and washing his hands when he heard the gunshot.
