New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Thursday pardoned Shaneen Allen, a single mother arrested last year for bringing her legal handgun into New Jersey from her home state of Pennsylvania. She initially faced a felony charge and years in prison, but was later permitted to enter a pretrial intervention program.

Allen said she believed her Pennsylvania concealed carry permit allowed her to bring her .38-caliber handgun into New Jersey. However, she became a felony suspect as soon as she crossed the state line. She alerted officers in Atlantic County that she was carrying the gun when she was pulled over, which ultimately lead to her arrest.   Continue reading “Gov. Syrian military aircraft bombed areas close to its main crossing into Jordan on Thursday, witnesses and a group monitoring the conflict said, hours after insurgents had captured the border post.

Oregon could become the first state in the country to regulate agricultural use of antibiotics, should lawmakers approve bills that would prohibit giving antibiotics to healthy farm animals and require factory farms to report how the drugs are used in their operations.

More than 70 percent of antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used on livestock and poultry—and not primarily to treat sick animals. A new study has shown that pharmaceutical drugs cause more overdoses and more deaths than all of the illegal drugs on the market combined. According to the government’s own statistics, listed on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, deaths relating to pharmaceutical drugs rose to roughly 23,000 last year, which accounts for over half of the total overdose deaths in the country for that time period.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s Republican legislative leaders have unveiled changes to the state’s new religious objections law that has faced criticism it could allow discrimination against lesbians and gays.

The amendment to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act released Thursday prohibits service providers from using the law as a legal defense for refusing to provide services, goods, facilities or accommodations. After eight straight days of high-level diplomatic negotiations between the six world powers and Iran, negotiators in Lausanne, Switzerland, announced an interim agreement has been reached on the principles for dismantling Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting heavy economic sanctions.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The driver killed in a violent confrontation at a National Security Agency gate was a transgender sex worker in Baltimore, according to those who knew her, and she was remembered Wednesday as a friendly but troubled loner.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Tito and Amanda Watts were arrested over the weekend for selling “golden tickets to heaven” to hundreds of people. The couple, who sold the tickets on the street for $99.99 per ticket, told buyers the tickets were made from solid gold and each ticket reserved the buyer a spot in heaven — simply present the ticket at the pearly gates and you’re in.

“People can sell tickets to heaven,” a Jacksonville police spokesman said. “But the Watts misrepresented their product. The tickets were just wood spray painted gold with ‘Ticket To Heaven – Admit One’ written in marker. You can’t sell something as gold when it’s not.
