President Barack Obama surpassed the 1,000 mark for commutations granted during his presidency on Tuesday after shortening sentences for 79 people.
Obama has been granting commutations at rapid-fire pace in his final months in office.

According to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, the Obama administration is getting ready to unilaterally admit thousands of refugees previously rejected entry by Australian authorities. The refugees in question are from terror hot spots like Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and Sudan. Antarctic sea ice had barely changed from where it was 100 years ago, scientists have discovered, after pouring over the logbooks of great polar explorers such as Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton. Experts were concerned that ice at the South Pole had declined significantly since the 1950s, which they feared was driven by man-made climate change. Navy Cmdr. Sarah DeGroot, commanding officer of the 420-person dock landing ship USS Rushmore, abruptly resigned Monday and walked off the job.
A commanding officer resigning voluntarily is incredibly rare. It’s not clear why DeGroot handed in her command, but she did in fact have that option, unlike in other branches of the military, where walking off the job would be met with serious punishment, Navy Times reports. As we celebrate the wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and all we have to be truly grateful for, one thing that takes center stage at Thanksgiving is food—glorious tasting food of all kinds, flavors and recipes. However, today’s food is not what food was prior to the 1990s. Food now contains genetically modified organisms which are harming the human gut, microbiome and immune system.
My Thanksgiving wish for all readers is that society everywhere can come to the realization that food really is medicine for the body, mind and even our spirit. Wildfires tore across central and northern Israel on Thursday, forcing tens of thousands of residents to flee the city of Haifa, as leaders blamed arsonists for some of the blazes and branded them terrorists.
Television pictures showed a wall of flames raging through central neighborhoods of Israel’s third largest city. Firefighters dowsed a petrol station with water as the blaze edged closer.

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Central America. It came on the heels of the powerful Hurricane Otto, and was felt in several countries across the region, triggering a brief tsunami warning.

Turkey said a suspected Syrian air strike had killed three of its soldiers overnight, in what appeared to be the first Turkish casualties at the hands of the Damascus government’s forces since Ankara launched an incursion into Syria three months ago.

Michael Banerian wants to show that young adults still have faith in the political system, but he said his selection as one of Michigan’s 16 Electoral College voters has prompted emails urging him to vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton and even threatening death.
On Dec. 19, the 22-year-old Banerian is scheduled to join 15 other Michiganians to cast their electoral votes for Republican President-elect Donald Trump. But Trump’s opponents have deluged Banerian and other GOP electors with pleas and nasty emails to reverse course and cast their ballots for Clinton, according to the Michigan Republican Party. Washington (AFP) – Hillary Clinton is now more than two million votes ahead of President-elect Donald Trump in the popular vote count for the US presidential elections, a tally compiled by the Cook Political Report showed Wednesday.
