University of Hawaii at Mānoa, 2017:

In the Wake of Fukushima: Radiocesium Inventories of Selected North Pacific Fish

Thirteen commonly consumed types of fish caught in the North Pacific and locally available in Hawaii were analyzed using gamma spectroscopy to measure Fukushima-derived and historic 134 Cs and 137 Cs isotopes. All fish samples had detectable 137 Cs above 95% Confidence Intervals. Three out of the thirteen samples had 134 Cs, an isotope indicative of Fukushima releases, detected above 95% Confidence Intervals. The highest 134 Cs and 137 Cs concentration in the examined species was in ahi tuna carrying 0.10±0.04 Bq/kg and 0.62±0.05 Bq/kg, respectively. Other samples with 134 Cs activities found above their 2-sigma uncertainty were albacore tuna and swordfish…   Continue reading “Fukushima radiation found in Hawaii fish — Almost half contain fallout from Japan nuclear disaster”

Below is a clip taken from the “One More Girl” documentary, a film regarding the Gardasil vaccine, which was designed to prevent Human Papillomavirus. In it, Dr. Peter Rost, MD, a former vice president of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world (Pfizer), shares the truth about the ties between the medical and pharmaceutical industry.

Rost is a former vice president of Pfizer, and a whistleblower of the entire pharmaceutical industry in general. Food recalls at grocery stores often go unnoticed, leaving people unaware that the food they’re eating could be tainted with dangerous bacteria. Finding out through a trip to the emergency room is not what we want.

Last year, an outbreak of listeria hit multiple states due to contaminated frozen produce. After some people got sick, it was later discovered that multiple companies were selling products that were either tainted or possibly tainted. Therefore, a recall was issued.  Continue reading “All 44 Frozen Foods Wal-Mart’s Recalling Right Now”

The Department of Natural Resources sold large portions of Indiana’s Yellowwood State Park to a logging company this week, despite the fact that people interested in conserving the forest offered considerably more money.

On Thursday, an auction of the forest was won by Hamilton Logging of Sullivan County for just $108,785. However, the conversationalist owners of Distinctive Hardwood Floors and Castlewood Inc. were willing to offer $150,000 to preserve the trees for 100 years. The company was backed up by hundreds of protesters who also wanted the forest preserved.   Continue reading “Despite Tree Lovers Offering $150K to Buy Forest, Gov’t Sells It To Loggers for $40K Less”

On Friday, the “western press” started to set the stage for war between Lebanon (and Iran) and Saudi Arabia (and Israel).

First, it was the third reminder in a row that, despite no presentation of evidence, the ballistic missile that was fired last Saturday by Houthi rebels in Yemen, and supposedly meant to strike the Riyadh airport before it was intercepted by Saudi defense forces, the ballistic missile belonged to Iran. As the AP reported this morning, “the ballistic missile fired by Yemeni rebels that targeted the Saudi capital was from Iran and bore “Iranian markings,” the top U.S. Air Force official in the Mideast said Friday.” Lt. Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigian, who oversees the Air Forces Central Command in Qatar and made the comments at a news conference in Dubai, declined to offer any specifics on what type of missile they believed it was.   Continue reading ““Israel Will Not Let This Happen”: Iran Is Reportedly Building A Military Base In Syria”

Has anyone else noticed the need that ‘artists” have to be more and more outrageous lately?  It seems like many Americans can’t be happy unless they are finding greater ways to shock and repulse others. This seems to especially apply to the art community. They say that “art reflects life” and if that is the case, we are really in a dark place.

I’ll give you some stomach-turning examples in a moment, but let me first bring this back to a child-rearing theory I have.   Continue reading “If It’s True That Art Reflects Life We’re in a Very Dark Place”

While Democrats on Wednesday were feeling encouraged and empowered by Tuesday’s coast-to-coast rejection of Trumpism, Republican legislators who control Wisconsin did what the GOP does best in elections: voted to rig the system to favor their agenda. Only this time the target wasn’t voter suppression; it was the U.S. Constitution.

On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Legislature voted to call for what’s known as an Article V constitutional convention, becoming the 28th state to do so in recent years. Thirty-four states are needed, according to the nation’s founding document, to launch a process that would open up the foundation of American’s rights and laws to revision.   Continue reading “We Are Now One State Closer to Having a Corporate-Dominated Constitutional Convention”

Recent events in the Mideast are rather disturbing even to people like me whose baseline position is that the professionals in both the Israeli and US military will reject war with Lebanon and its allies as unwinnable. But there are some disturbing events all over the Mideast that give us all reason for concern.

Even Dov Zakheim wrote an article in the Chicago Tribune speculating that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MSB), Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, and PM Netanyahu were plotting something. MSB had gone to Israel in September. Kushner has gone to Saudi Arabia 4 times. Kushner had been going to Israel but the cover story was that he was negotiating with the Palestinians. Some speculate that he wants the Palestinian leader Abbas to support Israel in a war with Lebanon.   Continue reading “What If The Saudis, The US And Israel Attack Lebanon?”

Psychology professor Jordan Peterson’s stated plan to build a website aimed at reducing enrolment in university classes he calls “indoctrination cults” has drawn the ire of his University of Toronto colleagues, who say it will make them the target of harassment.

“As a science professor, I’m not specifically targeted, but I still believe this website is morally wrong,” U of T physics professor A.W. Peet told As It Happens host Carol Off. “A number of students and faculty members who I’m in correspondence with are concerned about his plans.”   Continue reading “U of T profs alarmed by Jordan Peterson’s plan to target classes he calls ‘indoctrination cults’”

Are the days of the free and open Internet numbered?  The Internet is certainly used for all sorts of horrible things, but it has also allowed ordinary people to communicate on a mass scale that would have been unimaginable decades ago.  In the old days, if you wanted to reach large audiences of people with your information you always had to go through corporate gatekeepers.  But today, anyone with an Internet connection can literally broadcast whatever they want to say to the whole world.  Personally, my wife and I have always been amazed at how many people we are able to touch all over the planet from our little home in the mountains.  Over the past seven years our websites have been viewed more than 100 million times, and we receive emails about our work from people all over the globe.   Continue reading “The Internet Crackdown Begins: U.S. Senator Al Franken Wants Google, Facebook And Twitter To Censor Political Speech”
