The University of Pennsylvania is sponsoring a “Vaccine Street Team” to go door-to-door around West Philadelphia, encouraging people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Councilmember Jamie Gauthier has teamed up with the Penn Medicine and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and has assembled a team of volunteers to coax West Philadelphia residents into getting the jab, according to a report by AL DÍA. A federal ban on evictions is poised to expire on July 31, putting millions of renters at risk of being thrown out of their homes in coming weeks as state and local officials struggle to distribute $46 billion in rental assistance to tenants and landlords across the country.

More than 15 million people living in the U.S. are behind on their rental payments and could face eviction when the moratorium lapses on Saturday, according to a new study published Wednesday by the Aspen Institute and COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project. Collectively, those households – a majority of which are low-income and suffered financially during the pandemic – owe an estimated $21 billion in rent, figures published by the National Equity Atlas show. Hundreds of armed men belonging to a newly-formed vigilante group called “El Machete” have abducted 21 people while burning vehicles and at least a dozen homes in a southern Mexico town, officials say.

Pfizer seems to have struck gold with its double-dose COVID-19 shot. The drug maker on Wednesday raised its sales forecast for the vaccine this year by nearly a third to $33.5 billion.

Greenbelt, Maryland – A federal criminal complaint has been filed charging Thomas Patrick Connally, Jr., age 56, for the federal charges of threats against a federal official and interstate communication containing a threat to harm, specifically for sending emails threatening harm to Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Francis Collins, the current Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  The criminal complaint was filed on July 26, 2021, and unsealed today upon Connally’s arrest.  Connally is expected to have an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy J. Federal law does not prohibit public agencies and private businesses from requiring COVID-19 vaccines that are under emergency use authorization, the Department of Justice concluded in an opinion.

Three major government entities – the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, California and New York City – said Monday they would require some or all of their government employees to get vaccinated or be tested weekly.
