The gunman who went on a rampage in West Texas Saturday was  deemed mentally unfit and had been banned from buying firearms in the criminal background check system, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to an incident that ended in an officer-involved shooting in the 3000 block of Second Street in Silver Springs on Monday. It came after calls for a physical domestic battery.

“There were two 911 calls that came in. Upon arrival of the residence, things escalated rather quickly and shots were fired inside the residence,” Lt. Jerry Pattison, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said. “One deputy was injured and the individual who had attacked the cops was pronounced dead on-scene.”

(Reuters) – A 14-year-old American boy shot and killed five family members at their home in Alabama, before throwing away the pistol and calling police, officials said on Tuesday, in the latest high-profile gun crime.

Over the holiday weekend, a gun-wielding group of people tried to storm their way into a Houston Popeyes outpost in search of the chain’s elusive chicken sandwich.

The attempted sandwich robbery allegedly went down on Monday night at the Popeyes location at 7159 Scott Street in Southeast Houston, according to ABC 7. Walmart (WMT) is proposing bold changes to its gun policy that will end sales of certain weapons, following a deadly mass shooting at one of its stores in El Paso, Texas, and an incident days earlier at another location in Southaven, Mississippi.

The retail giant will continue to cater to sportsmen and hunters, but plans to end the sale of certain types of ammunition.
