Health Impact News reported late last year (December 2017) that vaccine manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur admitted that their vaccine for dengue (a deadly tropical disease spread mostly by mosquitoes) was defective.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told Hillary Clinton to “stop pretending you’re a feminist” over her remarks about female Republican voters feeling pressure to vote the same way as their husbands.

BEIRUT (AP) — Thousands of civilians streamed out of two besieged enclaves on opposite sides of Syria on Thursday, crossing on foot and in pick-up trucks and tractors to safety after suffering weeks of shelling and bombardment at Turkish and Syrian government forces.

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — A U.S. Navy fighter jet crashed Wednesday off the coast of Key West, Florida, killing its two crew members. The F/A-18 Super Hornet was on approach to land at a naval air station around 4:30 p.m. when it crashed into shallow water about a mile (1.5 kilometers) east of the runway.

Both the pilot and weapons-system officer ejected and were rescued, but U.S. Naval Air Forces reported late Wednesday night that both had died. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a disgruntled worker killed a nursing supervisor and wounded another medical worker before killing himself inside a hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Police say 63-year-old nurse manager Nancy Swift was shot to death at UAB Highlands Wednesday night.

The say another worker was wounded but survived. Authorities described the shooter as a disgruntled worker who then turned the gun on himself. Authorities didn’t release the names of the wounded person or the suspected gunman. Toy makers big and small braced for severe disruption as bankrupt retailer Toys R Us Inc. confirmed Thursday that it plans to liquidate its U.S. business.

Toys R Us, which for decades was the nation’s go-to store for toys and games, said it plans to shutter all 735 stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, including 22 in the greater Los Angeles area and 87 in California overall.

Fox5 San Diego reports that anti-Trumpers scheduled two rallies a day before Trump’s visit against what organizers call the “wasteful, harmful and irresponsible” plan to build the wall. Today, some students, teachers, and other Americans who share their views are walking out of classes across the country to call for limits on the right of free assembly. Wait, strike that. They’re walking out of classes to call for further restrictions on protections against unreasonable search and seizure. Nope, that’s not it either. Wait, I have it: they’re protesting for greater regulation of self-defense rights. Yup, there we go.

Of course, they’re exercising their free speech rights in the process, and that’s as it should be (although at least some of the kids have been conscripted into exercising somebody else’s free speech rights by school officials who expect that their charges will adhere to officially endorsed positions). For the first time in California’s history, the state has appointed an undocumented resident to a statewide post, announcing the decision just a day after President Donald Trump attacked its immigration approach during a visit to San Diego.

Miami (AFP) – The world’s leading brands of bottled water are contaminated with tiny plastic particles that are likely seeping in during the packaging process, according to a major study across nine countries published Wednesday.

“Widespread contamination” with plastic was found in the study, led by microplastic researcher Sherri Mason of the State University of New York at Fredonia, according to a summary released by Orb Media, a US-based non-profit media collective.

Gold bars worth millions of dollars have fallen out of a plane taking off from Russia’s Yakutia region, famous for its diamond deposits. Ruptly was one of the first to film the valuables inside the damaged jet after the incident.

Photos circulating on social media appear to show gold bars wrapped in material scattered on the runway at Yakutsk Airport, in the country’s major diamond-producing region.
