A disturbing and reckless precedent was just set by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit which held that the US Constitution does not necessarily require cops to stop a K9 from tearing an innocent person to shreds. Seriously.
According to the ruling in the case of an innocent homeless man being mauled, nearly to death by a K9, police officers who deliberately allow their K9 to maul innocent people will be immune from liability and victims will have zero recourse. FRESNO, Calif. (CN) – A married couple claim Fresno sheriff’s officers destroyed their house by using it as a training ground for a teargas-wielding SWAT team, 50 vehicles, two helicopters, a K-9 unit and a fire truck — because an unarmed homeless man had been found in their closet.
David and Gretchen Jessen sued Fresno County and the City of Clovis on March 8 in Fresno County Court. They say the unconstitutional assault on their home was “excessive, unreasonable, violent, destructive … intrusive … unnecessary and unreasonable.” Continue reading “Bewildered Farmers Sue Fresno County for Overkill”

A second federal judge—this one in Wisconsin—on Friday blocked President Donald Trump’s new executive order (EO) on immigration travel, while the federal judge who blocked the first EO is reserving judgment on the revised EO.
Trump signed EO 13780 on Mar. 6, replacing his original order (EO 13769), temporarily restricting immigration from several terror-prone nations. Judge James Robart of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the first EO. The San Francisco-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit kept the TRO in place. Continue reading “Federal Court Blocks Trump Admin’s Immigration Executive Order”
One step at a time. Before we can grant full human rights to lobsters, the more mature barking moonbats realize that courts must come to accept personhood rights for chimpanzees:
On Thursday, [animal lawyer Steve] Wise — who founded the Nonhuman Rights Project on behalf of the great apes, cetaceans and elephants — will go before the appellate division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York in Manhattan and argue that two of his clients, chimpanzees Kiko and Tommy, should be afforded the rights of “personhood.” …

Carleton University is feeling the burn from students on social media for removing a weight scale from its gym to promote a more holistic approach to a healthy body image.

“Next it will be the mirrors. #bringbackthescale,” wrote one Carleton student on Facebook, while another said online, “Are you for real, Carleton? ROSEVILLE, MICHIGAN — A liquor store owner was behind the counter with his friend when two armed men with masks came in Thursday evening and announced a robbery. Although with masks and guns, they didn’t need to do anymore announcing.
One of the armed thugs hops over the counter, but he doesn’t make it far until he’s seen high-tailing it the other way. Why the sudden directional change? The store owner’s friend, who was also behind the counter, was armed and ready to fire. Three shots when off, all in the direction of the bad guy. The Finance Ministry of Iceland said it would lift the remaining capital controls that have been in place since the financial crisis in 2008. The government started dismantling them last year by easing restrictions for local residents.
Iceland was the country worst affected by the financial crash, forcing the government to take drastic measures. Reykjavik broke off negotiations on EU membership, nationalized three major banks and defaulted on $85 billion in loans. The government banned the movement of capital abroad and devalued the national currency. As a result, the stock market plummeted 90 percent, unemployment jumped to 10 percent, and inflation ballooned to 18 percent.
