Weather continues to cause trouble in the United States, as yet another powerful snowstorm is blanketing the mid-Atlantic region and the East Coast on Monday.

Much like previous storms, the latest is cancelling flights, clogging up roads, and knocking out power from Maryland and Washington, DC, to states as far south as Arkansas and Texas.

In DC, as much as 10 inches of snow is expected to drop in some areas, causing the federal government to close its doors for the day alongside schools. A Morris Catholic High School honor student and athlete who claims her parents threw her out of their Lincoln Park home when she turned 18 has taken the highly unusual step of suing them for immediate financial support and to force them to pay for her college education.

If Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) had been elected president, we might now be hearing an address from the Oval Office beginning with the salutation, “My fellow Ukranians.”

That would be us he would be addressing, because the senior Senator from Arizona has said “We’re all Ukranians” in response to the Russian invasion and takeover of parts Crimea. In an interview published in Time magazine’s political blog, named (appropriately enough) “Swampland,” McCain stopped short of calling for U.S. and NATO “boots on the ground” to counter Russian aggression in the disputed territory, but he did say the United States needs to “take certain measures that would convince Putin that there is a very high cost to actions that he is taking now.” Continue reading “Senator McCain Says, “We’re All Ukrainians””

I don’t watch much TV, but my guilty pleasure is AMC’s The Walking Dead. Lots of the preppers I know love watching this show and shouting out advice and criticism – it’s like our version of watching “the big game”.

I have to tell you, watching from a prepper/survival point of view, it seems like this season that the main characters are just muddling along, tempting the writers to kill them off. JERUSALEM (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews rallied Sunday in the streets of Jerusalem, blocking roads and paralyzing the city in a massive show of force against plans to require them to serve in the Israeli military.

The widespread opposition to the draft poses a challenge to the country, which is grappling with a cultural war over the place of the ultra-Orthodox in Israeli society. The issue of army service is at the core of that struggle. Since Israel’s founding in 1948, the ultra-Orthodox, who make up about 8 percent of Israel’s 8 million citizens, largely have been allowed to avoid military service, compulsory for most Jewish men, to pursue their religious studies.
