Aug 15 (Reuters) – Matthew Woessner, associate professor of political science at Pennsylvania State University, doesn’t smoke, spends an hour every day on the elliptical trainer and eats (mostly) healthy food. But he draws the line at new “wellness” steps required by his employer, such as filling out a form that asks whether he examines his testicles every month – and paying a $1,200 penalty if he doesn’t comply.

On the 60th anniversary of the 1953 military coup in Iran that overthrew the government of radical nationalist Mohammad Mossadegh, the US has declassified documents detailing how the CIA’s secret operation brought the country’s Shah back to power.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a gun-control measure into law on Sunday that expands background checks to cover all firearms purchases in the state, closing what he said was a loophole that exempted gun sales between private parties.

On August 16, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) vetoed some gun bills and sent others back to the state legislature with “recommendations.” One such recommendation is “requiring a New Jersey firearms identification card for the purchase of all ammunition.”

Christie also wants physicians and screeners overseeing involuntary commitments to inquire about firearm ownership.
