China appears to feel that its naval buildup has progressed sufficiently to allow it to retaliate against the US naval presence in the East China Sea by sending surveillance ships to Hawaiian waters.

The People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) electronic reconnaissance ship spotted in Hawaiian waters is most likely of about 4,000-ton displacement and is equipped with various electronic gear for eavesdropping on radio communications and tracking ships and aircraft. NEW YORK (AP) — A federal appeals court block of a judge’s ruling that found the New York Police Department’s stop-and-frisk policy discriminated against minorities may be short lived, depending on the outcome of next week’s mayoral election.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday that the ruling by U.S. District Judge Shira A. An undercover police officer tricked a teenager with autism into buying pot for him, a lawsuit filed by the boy’s parents alleges.

The 17-year-old, who isn’t named in the lawsuit, was arrested with 21 other high school students on drug-dealing charges as part of a sting operation last December at Chaparral High School in Temecula, Calif. and neighboring schools. In a bizarre announcement yesterday, the U.S. Treasury Department boasted that the government of Jordan had closed on a $1.25 issuance of sovereign debt guaranteed by the U.S. government. While I am not sure how common it is for our nation to guarantee these types of issuances (comments would be appreciated), the announcement represents a gigantic slap in the face on multiple levels.

A gunman opened fire at LAX, injuring several people and prompting an evacuation at the airport, ABC News reports.

Few details were immediately released, but CBS reports that there was an evacuation at Terminal 3, as well as multiple injuries. A suspect with a high-powered rifle was shot and secured by cops at about 9:30 a.m. local time, authorities told CBS. WASHINGTON –  Employees from six Homeland Security Department offices have abused an overtime program and cost the government about $8.7 million a year, according an Office of Special Counsel letter and report sent Thursday to the president and Congress.

Special Counsel Carolyn Lerner told President Barack Obama and lawmakers that whistle-blowers alerted her office to the abuses. Lerner’s letter and an accompanying report detailed allegations of overtime abuses in Washington. A gunman opened fire at a security checkpoint Friday morning at Los Angeles International Airport, injuring a Transportation Security Administration employee and prompting a terminal evacuation.
