When the smoke cleared at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., in the wee hours of a Friday morning last July, 12 people were dead, 58 were injured and Mayor Michael Bloomberg was in New York, readying an assault of his own.
On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted details of a no bid contract with weapons manufacturer Sig Sauer, worth $4.5 million over the next five years.
The contract is identical to the one DHS announced last week with Heckler & Koch.
US debt held by the public is now at about the same level as it was when Obama was elected. The deficit spending is financed by bonds from treasury, but they are being bought by the fed. Continue reading “Quantitative Sleazing”
Freshman Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC) sat down with the Shark Tank to discuss his recent introduces NRA-supported “Protect America’s Schools Act” that is aimed at securing schools after the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012.
Meadows said that he spoke to Sheriffs and other law enforcement personnel in his congressional district that told him that they would not be in favor of teachers arming themselves, simply because of lack of experience and training these teachers would have in knowing how to react to an imminent threat. NEW YORK — The ring of steel is expanding. New York City Police Department Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly announced a “major project” at a budget hearing on Tuesday to install license plate reader cameras “in every lane of traffic on all of the bridges and tunnels that serve as entrances and exits to Manhattan.”
The powers that be at CPRIT, the cancer research fund that Gov. Rick Perry is using as his slush fund to reward contributors, would like us to forget that it remains under criminal investigation. Texans, though, are outraged that tax money intended to find cures for cancer has been turned into just another crony capitalist wasteland.
Over the last few months, Texas media have uncovered improper grants, grants made without scientific review, grants to Perry contributors, and the resignations of dozens of agency scientists in protest of the crass commercialization of the agency and the crony capitalism. With Office of Management and Budget fact sheets in hand, President Obama warned of dire cutbacks and consequences should sequestration go into effect March 1.
Chuck Schumer’s S. 374, the Orwellian “Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013,” has been an empty shell… until he slipped in Amendment ALB13180 (PDF) today, which shows the “teeth” of the bill. It is an extremely aggressive attempt to destroy the Second Amendment by isolating and criminalizing extremely common behaviors among gun owners.
Monterey Park, CA – On a cold and drizzly morning at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau, a 25-year-old social media dispatcher is sitting at a computer station in a dimly lit room skimming social media feeds on three large screens.
The tech-savvy civilian dispatcher is part of the bureau’s new, 24-hour Electronic Communications Triage or eComm Unit that monitors social media and Internet content, shares information with the public and trains sheriff’s officials to use such platforms.
“They’re watching social media and Internet comments that pertain to this geographic area, watching what would pertain to our agencies so we can prevent crime, help the public,” LASD Capt. Mike Parker said. “And now they’re going to be ramping up more and more with more sharing and interacting, especially during crises, whether it’s local or regional.”
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, that oily man trapped in an oily woman’s body, put forth the most stupid argument for gun confiscation, yesterday, that I have ever heard. A picture of a Carcano M91/38 bolt-action rifle appeared on the screen. Rachel said, “This was the most popular foreign firearm, originally manufactured for military purposes that was sold in the United States at the time that John F. Kennedy introduced the bill that would have banned the sale of this gun.”
A picture of Lee Harvey Oswald then appeared on the screen and Rachel continued, “Want to get a better look at this gun, here’s another view. The man holding the rifle in this photo, is Lee Harvey Oswald, who went on of course to kill John F. Kennedy with that gun in 1963. Mr. Oswald bought that gun, by mail, legally, using a coupon that he clipped out of the American Rifleman Magazine, which is the magazine of the NRA.” Continue reading “Rachel Maddow Tells Little White Lies for the Communist Cause of Gun Confiscation”
The following excerpt comes from Gerry Spence’s From Freedom to Slavery, the Rebirth of Freedom in America (1996)(pp. 13-50). It is reprinted here with the permission of the author. It includes a letter that the Wyoming defense lawyer wrote to a friend who had urged that he withdraw from the Weaver case.
Spence’s friend, the Jewish former CEO of Columbia Pictures, expressed concern that Spence’s defense of Weaver would lend credibility to the “despicable” racist and neo-Nazi groups with which the Weaver family had been associated. As Democrats and gun control advocates praise the New York State Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013, or NY SAFE Act as it is generally known, for being the first post-Newtown gun control legislation in the country, county after county in New York State has either introduced or passed resolutions calling for the law’s repeal.
