At least 18 people have been reported dead after historic rains linked to Hurricane Ida flooded northeastern states on Wednesday night.

Eight people were confirmed dead in New York City, including a 2-year-old boy, a 48-year-old female and a 50-year-old man who were all found inside a home in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens as a result of the severe weather. Officials at Fort McCoy, also in Wisconsin, where thousands of Afghans are set to be housed, confirmed to WMTV15 News that the 11 flights of Afghans had arrived in the state, though the total number of Afghans on board was not revealed. BEND, Ore. (AP) — The death toll from COVID-19 in Oregon is climbing so rapidly in some counties that the state has organized delivery of one refrigerated truck to hold the bodies and is sending a second one, the state emergency management department said Saturday.
