Recount-2The Sedalia Weekly Observer

A recount was conducted Tuesday at the Pettis County Courthouse involving the results of the co-called “Right to Farm” Amendment to the Missouri Constitution.

On Aug. 5, Amendment 1 passed by 2,490 votes, or about a quarter of a percentage point.

Losers of a Missouri ballot initiative are permitted to request a recount if the margin is a half percentage point or less. A coalition of Amendment 1 opponents — including Missouri’s Food for America, the Missouri Farmers Union, and the Missouri Rural Crisis Center — formally called for a recount. A total of 497,091 people voted no on the proposal.   Continue reading “Recount on Missouri’s “Right to Farm” Amendment Conducted”

Under the terms of a 1945 agreement, Mexico and Texas are supposed to send each other a certain amount of water. Texas’ share comes from the Colorado River, while Mexico’s originates along the Rio Grande.   Continue reading “Mexico Owes Water to U.S.”

Free money for everyone!

With weak job growth, rising poverty, and the rich continuing to devour nearly all economic growth, it’s an idea that is gaining more credence. Arguments for a universal basic income (UBI) — in which everyone without exception would receive an equal stipend — have flourished in policy-centric areas of the internet, including The Week. Advocates of UBI see it as a blunter, more effective means of reducing poverty and shrinking the inequality gap.   Continue reading “America is running out of jobs. It’s time for a universal basic income.”

The growing glut of U.S. natural gas is helping to power a manufacturing boom in Mexico.

Natural-gas exports across the southern border have risen 11% so far this year, to two billion cubic feet a day, according to Bentek Energy, an analytics company based in Denver.

And that flow of gas could double in the next few years, analysts say. Companies have announced plans for at least seven new pipelines to take gas across the border from Texas and Arizona, including one expected to start transporting fuel at the end of the month.   Continue reading “U.S. Natural-Gas Exports Fuel Mexican Manufacturing Boom”

There is a lot we don't know about the effects of an EMP/CME but there are some things that we do. Knowing what would happen to your electronics, your car, and your life is the first part of being prepared for an EMP - How to survive an EMP attack 2 life after the pulse - http://graywolfsurvival.com/?p=5454Sent to us by Graywolf.

In Part One of this series, I looked at what an EMP is, and the 3 types of EMPs (Electro Magnetic Pulse). Now, I will look at the impact that they would have should we ever experience one.

The type of pulses that could be generated with an EMP/CME

Before I begin, I want to note that it has been pointed out to me that there are some technical differences between a nuclear E3 pulse and a solar storm. However, the results to the power grid would be the same should either one hit. So for the sake of simplicity, I stated that a CME (Coronal Mass Ejection/Solar Storm) has E3 type characteristics, and referred to it as a solar EMP.   Continue reading “How to survive an EMP – Part 2: Life after the pulse”

PHOENIX — The remnants of Hurricane Norbert pushed into the desert Southwest and swamped Phoenix with record rainfall for a single day, turning freeways into small lakes and sending rescuers scrambling to get drivers out of inundated cars.

In Tucson, one woman died after her car was swept away by flooding and trapped against a bridge.

A flash-flood warning was issued for most of the Phoenix area and its outskirts through Monday morning because of thunderstorms and rainfall associated with Norbert after it was downgraded to a tropical depression.   Continue reading “Record rain in Phoenix turns freeways into lakes”

Here’s a traffic jam you don’t see every day.

Two deer ran across San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge on Friday, snarling traffic during the evening rush hour. Traffic slowed behind the prancing pair as they made their way from the Presidio to Marin County, delighting rubberneckers, who posted photos and videos of the spectacle to social media.

The deer were reported to the California Highway Patrol, but the unusual commuters were already gone by the time police arrived, officials said.   Continue reading “Deer snarl traffic on Golden Gate Bridge”
