Ammon Bundy wants to inspect and copy court records regarding the selection of a grand jury that returned a federal indictment against him and the selection of jurors summoned for his September trial, his lawyer wrote in a new motion.

At least 15 people have been killed in a knife attack at a residential care centre for the disabled in the Japanese city of Sagamihara.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law on Friday a bill to require anyone planning to build a homemade firearm to first obtain a serial number for the weapon and submit to a background check, his office said in a statement.

DENVER (Reuters) – Residents of a small farming community in eastern Colorado have been warned to avoid drinking the town’s water after THC, the psychoactive agent in marijuana, was found in one of its feeder wells, authorities said on Thursday.

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward to help retrieve an assault-style weapon, a handgun and other equipment that was stolen July 10 from an agency vehicle that was parked along the H Street corridor in Northeast Washington.

Authorities said that the vehicle — a Ford Expedition — was locked and that someone smashed a rear window and took a secured gun lock box. GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo., July 22 (UPI) — The owner of a Colorado bed and breakfast lassoed and wrestled with a 2-year-old black bear to free the animal’s head from a plastic jug of Cheese Balls.

Jim Hawkins, owner of Four Mile Creek Bed and Breakfast outside of Glenwood Springs, said the bear had been spotted numerous times during the past week with the clear plastic Cheese Balls container on its head, but it always wandered away before authorities arrived. A federal judge has rebuffed the State Department’s drive to shut down a Republican National Committee Freedom of Information Act lawsuit over the emails of top aides to Hillary Clinton.

The Justice Department turned heads with a court pleading last month that asked a judge to excuse State from complying with the GOP requests because they could take “generations” to process. U.S. prosecutors sued on Wednesday to seize more than $1 billion in assets they said were tied to an international scheme to launder money stolen from the Malaysian state fund 1MDB, which was overseen by Prime Minister Najib Razak, and used to finance the Hollywood film “Wolf of Wall Street” and to buy property and famous works of art.

(Reuters) – A federal judge on Tuesday rejected a petition by two brothers who led the armed occupation of a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon to be freed ahead of their trial, citing in part what he said was an aborted jailbreak attempt by one of them.

In a last-ditch effort to revive a White House plan to protect up to 4 million immigrants from deportation, the Obama administration on Monday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to rehear a case on which the eight-member court was split 4-4 last month.

The June 23 high court decision left in place a lower court ruling that blocked the plan, which has never been in effect.
