Here’s a title you can’t help but read, even though it’s in a highly technical scholarly journal: “A case of musical preference for Johnny Cash following deep brain stimulation of the nucleus accumbens.”
It’s published in the May issue of Frontiers of Behavioral Neuroscience.
And it’s one of the more unusual tales recently from the field of neuroscience, already famous for stories so fantastic that not even the authors can fully explain them, which is the case here. Continue reading “How a brain treatment for OCD turned a man into a Johnny Cash fanatic”
Not many restaurants have the chance to respond to a customer’s review in a smart, effective and cheeky way. Atomic Grill in Morgantown, West Virginia, however, managed to do just that.
After a customer posted a review on UrbanSpoon — which has since been deleted — requesting that the servers show more skin, owner Daniel McCawley took matters into his own hands. Continue reading “Restaurant Responds to Review Requesting Servers ‘Show Some Skin’ In Clever Way”

OAK BROOK, Ill. — Police arrested a rabbi and others who took part in a protest on the campus of McDonald’s headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.
After protesters passed through a security kiosk onto McDonald’s property, police issued an order to disperse and began arresting protesters lined up behind a barrier erected in front of a headquarters building. Despite the arrests, the atmosphere seemed collegial. “We’re all on the same team,” a police officer told the unnamed rabbi. WASHINGTON (AP) — Millions of Americans would no longer get mail delivered to their door but would have to go to communal or curbside boxes instead under a proposal advancing through Congress.
The Republican-controlled House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, on an 18-13 party-line vote, approved a bill Wednesday to direct the U.S. Postal Service to convert 15 million addresses over the next decade to the less costly, but also less convenient delivery method. Seven borrowers who had been paying their Sallie Mae student loans on time for years were unexpectedly threatened with asset seizures after a Sallie Mae contractor demanded they immediately repay tens of thousands of dollars simply because a family member had died.
Regina Kibler, a retiree who lives off payments from her late husband’s life insurance policy, spent days agonizing over how to help her son, Christopher, pay back nearly $22,000 neither had. It might be the first order U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi doesn’t obey.
The mother of the reservist, who is being held in a Mexican jail after mistakenly crossing the border with registered guns, told FoxNews.com her son just got an “Order to Muster” letter from the Marines telling Tahmooressi to report to the 4th Civil Affairs Group in Hialeah, Fla., on June 14. Although a Marine spokeswoman later told FoxNews.com that the corps is aware of Tahmooressi’s current circumstances and does not expect him to report, failure typically can result in “other than honorable discharge” and affect Veterans Administration benefits. Billionaire anti-gunner Michael Bloomberg may have entered a new phase of selling gun control yesterday when, during a conversationwith Bob Schieffer on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” he introduced a new term regarding background checks and also suggested that gun control, by any other name, is not gun control.
At about three and a half minutes into the interview, Bloomberg told Schieffer, “We’ve got to make sure that the Congressmen understand the vast bulk of Americans want them to vote for sensible gun regulation, not control, not banning, just regulation.” Continue reading “Bloomberg sets new tone for disingenuous anti-gun semantics”

Thailand’s army declared martial law nationwide on Tuesday to restore order after six months of street protests that have left the country without a proper functioning government, but insisted the surprise intervention was not a military coup.
While troops patrolled parts of Bangkok and army spokesmen took to the airwaves, the caretaker government led by supporters of self-exiled former premier Thaksin Shinawatra said it was still running the country. Continue reading “Thai army chief urges rivals to talk after declaring martial law”
