Ambitious dreams have now become a reality as the Ocean Cleanup deploys its $20 million system designed to clean up the 1.8 trillion pieces of trash floating in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Check out another Forbes piece on how Ocean Cleanup aims to reuse and recycle the ocean plastic.

The floating boom system was deployed on Saturday from San Francisco Bay and will undergo several weeks of testing before being hauled into action. The system was designed by the nonprofit Ocean Cleanup, which was founded in 2013 by 18-year-old Dutch inventor Boyan Slat. That’s according to the World Economic Forum, which predicts that AI and robots will kill off 75 million jobs worldwide by 2022.

As I was growing up as a kid, just as all of you, I ate anything and everything that was put in front of me, if it smelled and tasted good I ralphed it down; food was everything as I was growing up. WASHINGTON ― The Economic Club of Washington threw a party for Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, on Thursday night in the fancy hotel ballroom that also hosts the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Economic Club president and billionaire private equity investor David Rubenstein interviewed Bezos on a stage for the benefit of lesser rich people who’d paid to attend. At one point near the beginning of the event, Rubenstein asked the crowd if anyone had taken the subway to get there, and everyone laughed.
