DALLAS (AP) — A federal judge dismissed the National Rifle Association’s bankruptcy case Tuesday, leaving the powerful gun-rights group to face a New York state lawsuit that accuses it of financial abuses and aims to put it out of business.

The judge was tasked with deciding whether the NRA should be allowed to incorporate in Texas instead of New York, where the state is suing in an effort to disband the group. Though headquartered in Virginia, the NRA was chartered as a nonprofit in New York in 1871 and is incorporated in the state. Pfizer-BioNTech announced on May 7 that they have requested that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) start the process of fully approving their COVID-19 vaccine. The companies will continue to supply the agency with additional data on vaccination safety and effectiveness on a rolling basis over coming weeks. The FDA issued an emergency use authorization for the shot in December, based on short-term data on safety and efficacy.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Allentown City Council during its Wednesday night meeting OK’d putting before voters a referendum question that, if approved, could remove English as the city’s official language.

The question will ask Allentown voters if they want to delete a section in the city’s Home Rule Charter “that identifies English as the official language of the City of Allentown.” The question will appear on the Nov. 2 municipal election ballot. WASHINGTON ― The U.S. State Department announced it reached a $13 million settlement with American defense firm Honeywell over allegations it exported technical drawings of parts for the F-35 fighters and other weapons platforms to China and other foreign countries.

Federal agents opened fire on an armed man outside CIA headquarters in McLean, Virginia, during an hourslong standoff on Monday, authorities said.

NBC News, citing two law enforcement officials, reported that an intruder had attempted to drive into the CIA facility without access at about 6 p.m. ET, and was stopped by armed guards. DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — A federal court has upheld a Florida city’s decision to issue nearly $30,000 in code violation fines to a homeowner whose grass was overgrown.

24 January 2021 update: I’m pleased to say that this morning I received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine. Yes, when I originally wrote this essay, I said I was opposed to any vaccine approved by the Trump administration because of the way they had let their political aspirations overshadow science. But rational human beings and all scientists follow the data. As information changes, opinions need to follow suit. Given that vaccine approval was based on data rather than politics, I changed my opinion. I hope everyone reading this note opts to be vaccinated as soon as possible. DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas police officer was arrested Thursday on two counts of capital murder, more than a year and a half after a man told investigators that he kidnapped and killed two people at the officer’s instruction in 2017, authorities said.

Bryan Riser, a 13-year veteran of the force, was arrested Thursday morning and taken to the Dallas County Jail for processing, according to a statement from the police department.
