Despite protests from animal rights groups, the dog owned by a Spanish nurse diagnosed with Ebola has been put down, officials in Madrid said Wednesday. The animal will be incinerated.

The mixed-breed dog, Excalibur, had been left at Teresa Romero Ramos’ home alone by her husband, Javier Limón Romero, who is being monitored at a hospital for Ebola symptoms. Madrid health officials had informed him they had obtained a court order to euthanize the dog, sparking an outcry among animal rights activists.   Continue reading “Excalibur, Ebola nurse’s dog, is euthanized in Spain”

The proposed euthanization of a dog belonging to a Spanish nurse infected with Ebola prompts questions about whether animals can transmit Ebola to humans.

The Ebola virus can be found across the animal kingdom, from bats and birds to pigs and porcupines. But there is a difference between having a disease and transmitting it to another animal—or another species. That’s at the heart of a controversial move by Spanish health authorities, who have obtained a court order to euthanize the dog belonging to a nurse who contracted the Ebola virus in Madrid, saying that available scientific knowledge suggests dogs can transmit the virus to humans. But how much do we know about which animals can catch and transmit the deadly virus?   Continue reading “Can Dogs (And Other Animals) Get Ebola?”

A public health advertisement in Monrovia.Boston Globe – by Evan Horowitz

With Ebola infections increasing, and the death toll rising, the World Health Organization is now calling Ebola “the most severe acute public health emergency seen in modern times.”

In just the past few days, the virus has infected a nurse in Spain and claimed the life of a Liberian man visiting loved ones in Dallas. On Wedneday, US officials announced a new program to screen airline passengers entering the country from West Africa.   Continue reading “How the Ebola outbreak spun out of control”

Prevent Disease – by Mae Chan

It doesn’t have a catchy name or a trendy following to drop a size, but when it comes to your health, it’s one of the most effective diets in the world. Proponents of the diet say it can reduce heart disease risk, keep existing cardiac problems in check, reduce blood triglycerides and blood pressure, soothe arthritic joints and even prevent cancer. There’s no need to look anywhere but your kitchen.

While each plan has its own twist, all are based on the general concept that constant or out-of-control inflammation in the body leads to ill health, and that eating to avoid constant inflammation promotes better health and can ward off disease, says Russell Greenfield, MD, a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.   Continue reading “The Anti-Inflammatory Diet Only Leads In One Direction – Health”

Vice President Joe Biden held up traffic around Los Angeles for a second day on Tuesday, but it was President Obama himself on the minds of many Southern California drivers as bumper stickers began appearing on area cars featuring the word Ebola with the Obama logo replacing the letter “o.”

The scathing stickers come on the eve of President Obama’s Thursday trip to LA for a fundraiser at the home of Gwyneth Paltrow and on the same day that the LATimes reports that it may be premature for Mr. Obama’s government to declare that the deadly Ebola virus is not transmitted by air.    Continue reading “Obama Ebola Bumper Stickers Appear Around Los Angeles”

Activist Post – by Brandon Smith

I remember years back when I was still writing for my original website, Neithercorp.us, we came across a then little known video of airtight “coffin liners”, hundreds of thousands, stacked in a field in the middle of Madison, Georgia in close proximity to Atlanta and the home of the CDC. We helped break that story which immediately swept through independent media circles.

Owners of the property leased to store the hermetically sealing plastic coffins stated that it was the CDC that had rented the land for storage of the coffins.  Confirmation from the CDC has not been forthcoming.   Continue reading “CDC Suggests “Hermetically Sealed Caskets” For Ebola Victims – AKA “Fema Coffins””
