A group of five Muslim American men included on the watchlist of suspected terrorists maintained by the United States government filed a federal complaint on Thursday this week contesting their placement.

“The federal government has unjustly and disproportionately targeted American Muslims by routinely adding their names to the Terrorist Screening Database without affording them their rights to due process,”Lena Masri, a staff attorney for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said in a statement announcing the legal action. “The lawsuit will challenge the government’s broad and unchecked power to secretly label individuals as ‘known or suspected terrorists’ without concrete facts, but based on only a vague standard of ‘reasonable suspicion.’”   Continue reading “Muslim Americans sue feds over placement on terrorist watchlist”

The government of Argentina is ready to use an anti-terrorism law to seek criminal charges against a US-based international printing company, which unexpectedly closed its plant on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

Thousands of people in New York rallied in solidarity with residents of Ferguson on Thursday, showing support to people across the US who have been victims of police brutality. The NYPD threatened mass arrests if people did not stop blocking traffic.

Tiffany Mitchell, a woman who says she witnessed a police officer shoot and killMichael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, shared her story during an appearance on CNN with her attorney Wednesday night.

A father of five died after he was involved in an altercation with deputies who suspected him of burglary.

The Victorville Daily Press reports that Dante Parker, 36, was suspected of attempting to burglarize a Victorville home on Tuesday afternoon.

So all this hype about Ferguson Missouri lately got me thinking, Why “Ferguson”? What does that name mean to anyone WAY TOO bored in life to hurt people vicariously. Why not St. Louis? What makes “Ferguson” a headline buzzword?

So I looked it up. It turns out it is a Scottish name derived from Gaelic.

A suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, has been under a dramatic siege since Saturday, when a police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown.
