A 34-year-old woman in Burlington, Iowa was shot and killed on Tuesday by an officer who was allegedly aiming for her dog during an argument, the Burlington Hawk Eye reported.

The officer, identified as Jesse Hill, shot Autumn Mae Steele in front of her husband and 4-year-old son. A dump truck driver was arrested Wednesday after police say he intentionally rammed two police cruisers at a Glenarden shopping center.

No one was hurt and no officers were in the cruisers at the time of the incident, which Prince George’s County police said occurred at the Woodmore Towne Center just off Interstate 95 and Landover Road.

The incident began a little before noon as two patrol officers were outside a Costco planning to refill fluids in the cruisers when there was a “brief exchange of words” with the driver of the dump truck, said Lt. Moving crews have packed up desks, lamps, chairs, office supplies and other personal items of numerous Democrat Senate and House offices now vacated after November’s election. But in a suite of offices located directly across from the Senate Floor, there were relics from the list of bills that passed the U.S. House and sat without action inside Harry Reid’s office. Somewhere in that stack likely sits an anti-gun treaty signed by Secretary of State John Kerry.

To his credit, outgoing-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid likely knew the United Nation’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) (full text here) would never meet the two-thirds majority requirement for ratification. A shooting outside an Ohio airport left one person dead following a “confrontation” between officers and a man, an airport official said.

An officer opened fire at the male suspect outside Port Columbus International’s departure area at about 1 p.m., leaving the individual dead, David Whiticker, the airport’s vice president of business development & communications told reporters.

The US State Department has announced that Cuban authorities have released some of nearly 53 political prisoners on Washington’s list.

It’s not enough that 1.4 million California illegal immigrants can get a legitimate driver’s license there. Now the state’s taxpayers are going to subsidize their car insurance at $38 a month – rates far lower than what an American citizen could find from a private insurer.

In an everyday situation, poor vision is just an inconvenience. The modern world has provided us with lots of easy solutions: glasses and contact lenses are readily available.  Personally, I have required vision correction since I was 7 years old. I can barely remember a time when reaching for my glasses was not the first thing I did each morning.

In a disaster scenario, though, bad vision could be a terrible handicap. What if something happened to your glasses? What if you lost a contact or had no solution to rinse them? Would you be able to function without vision correction?  Have you ever stopped to consider how impaired you’d be? Could you shoot, evade, hunt, or defend yourself?
