The White House is open to the idea of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) as the next Speaker of the House, saying the Wisconsin Congressman had worked with the administration on issues they care about in the past.

Former President Jimmy Carter said recently that he provided maps of Islamic State positions in Syria to the Russian embassy in Washington, a move apparently at odds with the Obama administration’s official policy of not cooperating with Russia in the Syrian war.

Carter said on Sunday in Georgia that he knows Russian President Vladimir Putin “fairly well” because they “have a common interest in fly fishing.” When he met with Putin in April along with other global leaders to discuss the crises in Syria and Ukraine, the Russian president gave him an email address so the two could discuss his “fly fishing experiences, particularly in Russia,” Carter said.   Continue reading “Jimmy Carter offers help for Russia’s bombing campaign in Syria”

DREAMers are shaping up to play a prominent role in next year’s presidential election— at least in the Democratic camp.

Bernie Sanders this week become the second Democratic presidential hopeful to enlist a DREAMer to a high-profile campaign position by hiring Cesar Vargas, an undocumented immigrant who became the first without legal status to be approved to work as a lawyer in New York. Vargas has joined the Sanders campaign’s Latino outreach team.   Continue reading “Bernie Sanders’ campaign enlists prominent DREAMer to help win the Latino vote”

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — A black man who was a public housing inspector and part-time drummer was shot three times by a plainclothes police officer near his broken down vehicle on Interstate 95 and never fired his own gun, attorneys for his family said Thursday.

Corey Jones had five wounds — some of them exit wounds — and one shot broke his arm and another entered through Jones’ side and lodged in his upper body, his lawyers said after meeting with the state attorney who is investigating the fatal shooting.   Continue reading “Attorneys: Black drummer shot 3 times, never fired his gun”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was confronted Thursday with tough questions by Republicans over the slim diplomatic security in place at the Benghazi compound before the 2012 terror attacks — and repeated unanswered requests by the late Ambassador Chris Stevens for more support — as she testified before the congressional committee probing the attacks.

She faced tough questions from Republicans even as Democratic panel members spent their time trying to discredit the work of the committee itself, describing it as a partisan outfit. But amid claims that the panel has focused too much on Clinton’s personal email use, Republicans tried to focus Thursday on Benghazi.    Continue reading “Clinton challenged at hearing over security at Benghazi outpost”

A man wearing a Darth Vader-like mask and armed with a sword went on a rampage at a Swedish elementary school Thursday, killing a teacher and a student. The attacker died later of gunshot wounds inflicted by police who rushed to the scene, authorities said.

The teacher died at the school and the student later succumbed at a nearby hospital, according to officials. Police spokesman Thord Haraldsson said the 21-year-old attacker was fatally shot in the chest by police who responded to the attack at the Kronan school in Trollhattan, near Goteborg, Sweden’s second-largest city. Trollhattan is about 260 miles west-southwest of Stockholm.   Continue reading “Man in ‘Star Wars’ mask attacks Swedish school with sword; 2 dead”

Unlike the Department of Justice, Iceland is focusing on prosecuting the CEOs rather than low-level traders.

In a move that would make many capitalists’ head explode if it ever happened here, Iceland just sentenced their 26th banker to prison for their part in the 2008 financial collapse.   Continue reading “Iceland sentences 26 bankers to a combined 74 years in prison”

The power structure is beginning to panic as the public wakes up to the criminal climate engineering insanity. The growing police state is completely out of control and becoming unimaginably blatant with their actions. In recent weeks Washington has placed “gag orders” on the following agency employees, “The National Weather Service”, the “National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration”, and the “US Department of Commerce”. This is a massive red flag that should trigger alarm bells everywhere.

Bill Hopkins, the executive president for the National Weather Service employees organization (NWSEO) said this:   Continue reading “Government Implements Illegal “Gag Order” On National Weather Service And NOAA Employees”

China is calling for a global currency to replace the dominant dollar, showing a growing assertiveness on revamping the world economy ahead of next week’s London summit on the financial crisis.

The surprise proposal by Beijing’s central bank governor reflects unease about its vast holdings of U.S. government bonds and adds to Chinese pressure to overhaul a global financial system dominated by the dollar and Western governments. Both the United States and the European Union brushed off the idea.   Continue reading “China calls for new global currency”

What should’ve been a simple dispute between neighbors over exuberant children turned into a frightened family believing they had a cannibal in their midst. They began to receive mail saying their “children look delicious” and asking “may I have a taste.”

The two phrases sent to the parents in Champlin, Minnesota, were certainly a bolt from the blue, and a rather unpleasant one at that. They received the threatening letter September 27. Americans already pay more for pharmaceutical drugs than almost any other nation, and we also take the lion’s share of them, though our overall health as a nation is relatively poor. Do we really need a Big Pharma insider as the chief of the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA)? That is just what may happen.

President Obama has nominated Dr. Robert Califf, a doctor described as “the ultimate industry insider” to this position. According to the New York Times, Dr. Califf “has deeper ties to the pharmaceutical industry than any F.D.A. commissioner in recent memory.” He has an extensive record of close collaboration with pharmaceutical giants, and recently described regulation as a “barrier,” not a safeguard for public health.   Continue reading “Will Obama Name This Big Pharma Insider as Head of the FDA?”

A year after auditors documented tens of thousands of federal workers on paid leave for at least a month and longer stretches that exceed a year, close to 100 Department of Homeland Security employees still are being paid not to work for more than a year.

The large number persists even after the Obama administration urged agencies in June to curtail their reliance on what is known as administrative leave, the government’s go-to strategy for dealing with employees facing allegations of misconduct.   Continue reading “Almost 100 Homeland Security employees have been paid to stay home for over a year”

The House Freedom Caucus nixed John Boehner and rejected Kevin McCarthy. But by all accounts, its meeting with Paul Ryan — a confab key to determining the next speaker of the House — had gone pretty well.

At the end of the day, the veteran Wisconsin Republican and rules-obsessed Freedom Caucus members weren’t so far apart. In fact, Ryan agreed with much of what they were saying. In principle, anyway.   Continue reading “How Ryan conquered the Freedom Caucus”
