BOSTON (CBS) — Fenway Park played host Sunday to a multi-agency counterterrorism exercise that included simulated explosions and gunfire.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Karyn Regal said the drill sounded and looked real, with reports of active shooters and bombs, bomb-sniffing dogs called to the scene, and people running from the park with hands in the air. Those fake victims filling the ballpark Sunday were volunteers. The State Department said Monday that it has no records on hand showing that Seddique Mateen, the father of Orlando shooter Omar Mateen, ever met with department officials in Washington.

The elder Mateen posted pictures of himself posing outside of a State Department office, leading to questions about whether he ever met with U.S. policymakers. The Royal Navy has just discovered that one of their most advanced and expensive warships, the Type 45, can’t operate in the Persian Gulf. Apparently, the turbines can’t cope with the 90 degree waters of the gulf. They’re not capable of redistributing that kind of heat back to the engine, which slows the turbines down, eventually leading to a complete power failure for the entire ship.
