The New American – by Alex Newman

Americans, beware — globalists in Congress and burrowed inside the Trump administration are plotting to double down on the economy-crushing, sovereignty-stealing North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). At least, that is their plan, if they think Trump and the American people will let them get away with it.

Last month, after talking by phone with his Mexican and Canadian counterparts, President Donald Trump decided not to withdraw from NAFTA yet. Then, last week, the U.S. Trade Representative formally notified Congress that the administration intends to re-negotiate and “modernize” the controversial “free-trade” regime. It is being painted as a fulfillment of Trump’s campaign promises. However, all of the available evidence so far indicates that this portrayal is highly deceptive at best. Although Trump did not explicitly call for terminating NAFTA, he repeatedly expressed his anathema toward the agreement.    Continue reading “U.S. Trade Representative Seeks to Expand and Empower NAFTA”

The following is not simply a list of negative risks to the economy but a list of of serious economic conditions that are already placing drought-like pressures on the overall economy. This list doesn’t include the long-term structural problems with the economy, such as its high debt burden, but just the forces that have risen against it this year.   Continue reading “List of Seven Troubles Assailing the US Economy as We Head into Summer”

Last week Attorney General Jeff Sessions ordered federal prosecutors in drug cases to seek the maximum penalty authorized by federal mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Sessions’ order represents a setback to the progress made toward restoring compassion and common sense to the sentencing process over the past few years. Sessions’ action also guarantees that many nonviolent drug law offenders will continue spending more time in prison than murderers.

Sessions’ support for mandatory minimums is no surprise, as he has a history of fanatical devotion to the drug war. Sessions’ pro-drug war stance is at odds with the reality of the drug war’s failure. Over forty years after President Nixon declared war on drugs, the government cannot even keep drugs out of prisons!   Continue reading “Will the Trump Administration Overdose on Authoritarianism?”

Florida Department of Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam announced on Monday that hackers may have obtained the names of concealed weapon licensees in a data breach that “appears to have originated from overseas” (must be those Russians again!).

The breach may have revealed the social security numbers of 469 customers, and another 16,190 may have had their names but “no other individually identifying information” was compromised.   Continue reading “Names of More than 16,000 Concealed Weapons Permit Holders in Florida Exposed In Hack”

Medical marijuana legalization is causing patients to ditch their prescription pills for pot, a trend researchers say could save Medicaid more than $1 billion if legalization is implemented federally.

A recent study published in Health Affairs shows marijuana legalization is sparking a decline in prescription medications under Medicaid. The research, which analyzed Medicaid data in states with medical marijuana programs, found rates of prescriptions being filled under Medicaid for opioid painkillers dropped by 11 percent, and other addictive medications followed similar patterns, reports The Colorado Statesman.  Continue reading “Legal Weed Could Save Medicaid More Than $1 Billion”

As I’ve been telling you for years, it’s easy to keep the public on your side if you regularly tout medical “breakthroughs” in the press. The latest innovation. The promise of a cure around the corner. The maybe-could-be discovery that will change the course of disease treatment forever.

In this case, a start-up called Tilos has one of those, for cancer. They say it’s an antibody their researchers came across while looking for a cure for MS. They stumbled on to it by accident. Aha.   Continue reading “Would the government let Jesus cure cancer?”

U.S. President Donald Trump told his Philippine counterpart that Washington has sent two nuclear submarines to waters off the Korean peninsula, the New York Times said, comments likely to raise questions about his handling of sensitive information.

Trump has said “a major, major conflict” with North Korea is possible because of its nuclear and missile programs and that all options are on the table but that he wants to resolve the crisis diplomatically.   Continue reading “Trump tells Duterte of two U.S. nuclear subs in Korean waters: NYT”

Tuesday’s Department of Justice budget proposal asks Congress for $1.8 million to “meet litigation, acquisition, and appraisal demands during the construction along the border between Mexico and the United States.”

The money will be used to devote 20 new staff members, including 12 attorneys, to the Environmental and Natural Resources Division’s Land Acquisition Section (LAS). This small section of the DOJ handles litigation that arises when the federal government uses its “eminent domain” power to seize land for public projects.   Continue reading “DOJ Budget Ramps Up Funding for Eminent Domain ‘Land Acquisition’ in Potential Effort to Clear Way for Border Wall”

It is now possible to take 3D pictures of the inside of a room or building — from the outside — with Wi-Fi.

The technology, described in the journal Physical Review Letters, is still in the development stage, although its impact on privacy is frightening.

“You could probably use a drone to map out the inside of an entire building in 20 to 30 seconds,” Philipp Holl, an undergraduate at the Technical University of Munich, told Business Insider.   Continue reading “How Snoopers Can Photograph The Inside Of Your Home … With Your Own Wi-Fi”

Detroit, MI — Calvin Jones was apparently kidnapped, choked unconscious, and caged in his underwear, all for wanting to know why he was pulled over in a traffic stop by Taylor police.

It all started when Jones and his wife were pulled over by a Taylor Police Department officer in April 2016. At the same time the officers’ dashcam was recording, Jones’ wife was also recording the incident on her cell phone.   Continue reading “Cop Rips Out Window, Beats Driver, Arrests Family, for Asking Why He Was Stopped”

Baltimore, MD — Baltimore police have found themselves in an awkward position as of late after a horrifying documentary from Netflix exposed a dark underground child sex ring involving the church, politicians, and cops. The series, titled, The Keepers, has forced the Baltimore police to set up an online submission form as people began to come forward after watching it.

While the series is on Netflix for the world’s entertainment, the harsh truth is that it really happened.
