Alleged drug dealers shot an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) on Thursday in what was described as an ambush during a drug buy operation conducted in the Chicago area. The gunmen shot the agent twice. Agents returned fire, killing one.

The shooting occurred in Gary, Indiana, just southeast of Chicago on Thursday. The incident occurred during a drug buy operation, ABC News reported. The drug buy is part of an ongoing effort by federal officials to attempt to reduce drug-related gang violence in the Chicago area. President Donald Trump told a gaggle of reporters Friday that he will “probably” support efforts by Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) to end the federal ban on marijuana in states that have legalized it.

“I support Sen. Gardner,” the president said before departing for the G-7 summit in Canada, as quoted by the Los Angeles Times. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. AUSTIN — President Donald Trump praised the Coast Guard for its heroics during Hurricane Harvey Wednesday, but credited the high number of water rescues to people taking their boats out to watch the storm roll in, baffling first responders.

Trump was on a conference call with state and federal leaders in preparation for another dreadful hurricane season. During the call, Trump thanked the Coast Guard for its service in helping save 16,000 people after Harvey, Hurricane Maria and other storms. A death row inmate in Texas, who gouged out both of his eyes in jail, eating one of them, has been told that his severe mental illness is not reason enough to commute his sentence. However, alleged racial bias by the jury may be.

Andre Thomas, who was sentenced to death for the brutal murder of his estranged wife, their son, and her baby daughter in 2004, was ruled to be sane enough to be executed by the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals. A San Francisco woman is accused of stabbing and dismembering her roommate after police discovered decomposing pieces of her roommate’s body oozing from plastic bags in a storage container, prosecutors said Wednesday.
