A large hole now stands where, only one day earlier, two homes were torn to the ground by Israeli air strikes. Looking over the debris, dozens of relatives and neighbours gathered to remember the eight members of the al-Sawarka family, who were killed in the attack.
The two adjacent shabby houses with tin ceilings were located in a marginalised area of the Deir al-Balah refugee camp on the southern Gaza Strip. Continue reading “‘All that’s left are their school uniforms’: Israeli air strike kills eight Palestinian relatives”
Hours after meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Wednesday blocked a resolution that would have condemned the Armenian genocide of 1915.
Graham stated he blocked the resolution because he did not want the Senate to “sugarcoat history or try to rewrite it.” Whatever its other merits or drawbacks might be, condemning the Armenian genocide would seem to be the opposite of sugarcoating history. Graham’s office did not respond to a request from Fox News for elaboration of the senator’s thinking. On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s special coverage of the shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, CA, former President Bill Clinton told President Donald Trump to ignore impeachment and pass gun control.
Commenting on when the Republican-controlled House impeached him in 1998, Clinton said, “Look at how much we got done in 1998 and 1999 and even in ‘97. We had very productive actions in all three years. The only really tough year we had after the Republicans won the Congress, was ‘95 to the beginning of ‘96—when they shut the government down twice. Once the public rendered judgment on what they thought should be done, I kept working with them. That’s just an excuse.” Continue reading “Bill Clinton to Trump: Ignore Impeachment, Pass Gun Control Now — ‘You Got Hired to Do a Job’”

I just keep tripping on how dumb this latest US-backed military coup is. It’s in Bolivia in case you’ve lost track, which would be perfectly understandable since US-backed coups have become kind of like US mass shootings — there’s so many of them they’re starting to blend into each other.
