Washington — New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit on Thursday seeking to disband the National Rifle Association (NRA), claiming its top officials diverted millions of dollars from the influential gun group for their personal use and enriched their families and close associates by awarding lucrative contracts.

The lawsuit from James, filed in New York state court, alleges the NRA and four of its top executives mismanaged funds and violated state and federal laws, resulting in the loss of more than $64 million for the organization in a span of three years. The senior leaders, James claims, used millions from the NRA’s coffers on trips to the Bahamas, private jets, luxury hotels and fine dining. We know that face masks help protect others from Covid-19, and it looks like they also provide some protection against facial recognition technology — for now. A preliminary study from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) analyzed how well the technology fared when identifying people wearing face masks. Broadly speaking, the facial recognition algorithms designed before the pandemic struggled to recognize faces behind the masks. __1947: __ A cargo ship explodes at dockside in Texas City, Texas. The blast and the fires that follow kill about 600 people and injure 3,500 more. Six decades later, it remains the deadliest explosion and worst industrial disaster in U.S. history.

The Grandcamp, a World War II Liberty ship that had been converted to a French merchant vessel, was taking on a load of ammonium nitrate fertilizer at a quay next to a complex of Monsanto chemical factories, offices and labs. The ship’s carpenter smelled smoke in the No. 4 hold around 8 a.m. on April 16 and found that a few bags of fertilizer were on fire. He tried dousing it with a few buckets of water, then a fire extinguisher. Continue reading “April 16, 1947: Ship Explosion Ignites 3-Day Rain of Fire and Death”

Lebanon is prepared to defend itself against Israel’s attacks, which are in violation of the 2006 UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Saturday.

In a televised address, the president said Israel’s attacks in southern Lebanon had once again flouted UNSC Resolution 1701, which calls for full cessation of hostilities and Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Continue reading “Lebanon: We are prepared to defend against Israel’s attacks”

Former Israeli Member of the Knesset Moshe Feiglin gleefully hailed yesterday’s devastating explosion in Beirut as a “gift” from God in time for the Jewish festival Tu B’Av.

Feiglin posted on Facebook that he thanked God that the deadly blast took place in Beirut, and claimed it was just in time for Tu B’Av, which is a festival of love, and in modern times has become a romantic Jewish holiday for dancing, handing out flowers and singing. President Donald Trump issued a memorandum on Monday which expands the use of the National Guard by authorizing guardsmen to respond to COVID-19 while at the same time allowing for the facilitation of economic recovery in the United States. (i.e. as society breaks down more and more National Guard will be seen on the streets)

The carefully crafted memo addressed to the Secretary of Defense and the secretary of Homeland Security uses the Stafford Act along with section 502 of title 32, United States Code “to foster close cooperation and mutual assistance between the Federal Government and the States and territories in the battle against the threat posed by the spread of COVID-19, especially as the United States transitions to a period of increased economic activity and recovery in those areas of the Nation where the threat posed by COVID-19 has been sufficiently mitigated.” Continue reading “National Guard will respond to COVID-19 and facilitate economic recovery until December 31, 2020”

Public health officials in Virginia are warning prospective students to get all the required vaccinations before the start of the school year in order to do online virtual learning from their home. If parents do not comply and do not show proof their kid got the injections, then their kid won’t be able to access the online learning materials provided by the school district. This is a threat. It’s also a lie, an empty threat, because children belong to their parents, not the state.

“I think people feel like if you’re not going to the brick and mortar school then you don’t need to have the immunizations but that’s incorrect,” said Fairfax County Health Department worker Shauna Severo, speaking with NBC 4 in WashingtonContinue reading “It’s about compliance, not science: Virginia officials demand students get vaccinations to participate in ONLINE learning from home”
