GREENCASTLE, Pa. (WHTM) – Update: Police believe a fatal shooting on Interstate 81 involving a driver in a small pickup truck was a random act.

On Saturday, state police reported that a pickup truck driver ran 28-year-old Timothy Davison off the road on Interstate 81, then got out of the truck and shot him several times. Davison later died at York Hospital.

According to officials, nothing in their investigation thus far indicates that the victim and the suspect knew each other. Police have not determined if there is a connection between this incident and a similar non-fatal shooting in Carroll Township.

Officials said Davison was driving a silver 2001 Mitsubishi Montero and was heading back to Maine after visiting family in Florida. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, January 6.

The FBI’s Harrisburg field office will be assisting in the investigation.

Police said the suspect was driving a smaller pickup truck, possibly a Ford Ranger. It could have some driver side damage to its door or front quarter panel. The victim’s vehicle is silver, so the suspect’s vehicle might have silver paint transfer on its driver side from when the suspect rammed the victim’s car.

Authorities are asking anyone who has any information, even if it seems minor, to call the Chambersburg Barracks at 717-264-5161. Officials are also asking any collision or auto body shops to contact police if a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle is brought to them.
