Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona, a Marine Corps veteran, last week called on Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough to withdraw benefits from active-duty service members, veterans, or military retirees who participated in the deadly Capitol riot on January 6.
“The behavior of these individuals is not representative of the large population of American veterans, the vast majority of whom served honorably and are appalled by the thought of insurrection in the country they served,” he wrote in a letter. “Yet, many of the veterans and servicemembers who attacked their own Government actively and enthusiastically enjoy special benefits given to them by their fellow citizens.” Continue reading “Rep. With migrant facilities being overwhelming by the massive surge of migrants, the Biden administration’s solution to the border crisis is to house migrants in hotels, but it will come at a hefty cost to the American taxpayer.
The Biden administration has awarded an $86 million contract to pay for hotel rooms to accommodate 1,200 migrant family members who cross the U.S.-Mexico border, Department of Homeland Security officials informed Axios. A federal prosecutor’s office in North Carolina announced on Friday that 24 more people were charged with voter-related fraud over the past 18 months.

Canadian Pacific Railways has agreed to buy Kansas City Southern for $25 billion ($28.9 billion including debt) in the largest takeover deal this year. The transaction which sees CP take over the smallest of the seven Class 1 railway operators that dominate a significant share of freight activity in the US, is the biggest in CP’s history and will create a 20,000-mile rail network including the first U.S.-Mexico-Canada railroad.
As the FT, which first reported the transaction, notes, the deal marks the latest effort to shake up a structure among the big railroads in the US and Canada that has been unchanged since CSX and Norfolk Southern — the two big operators in the eastern US — took over Conrail and divided it between themselves in 1999.
