Despite the fact that major storms can leave communities devastated and vulnerable to criminal acts in the aftermath like looting, one North Carolina city is acting to prevent its citizens from defending themselves if Hurricane Florence, now bearing down on the state, makes landfall and wreaks havoc.

As reported by The Gun Feed, the Firearms Policy Coalition and Firearms Policy Foundation announced Tuesday that both organizations sent a pre-litigation demand letter to the Town of Leland, N.C., whose officials have banned “some lawful and constitutionally protected firearm-related conduct in advance” of the hurricane. Chase, a German shepherd police K-9 with the Wilkes-Barre department, was deployed to chase a burglary suspect Tuesday when the dog chomped down on the leg of a cop, instead.

A federal judge has struck down a 95-year-old California law banning firearms dealers from placing ads for handguns or images of handguns on their storefronts.

Cigarette stocks dropped (then rebounded), after a Bloomberg report that the Food and Drug Administration is threatening to pull flavored electronic cigarettes like Juul off the market if the tobacco industry doesn’t do more to combat growing use of the products by children and teens.
