ASHLEY — Two women who said they were coerced into sex with a Pennsylvania police officer filed a federal lawsuit alleging he violated their constitutional rights.
Mark Icker, 29, of Dickson City is facing sexual assault, official oppression and related charges alleging he pressured the two women into performing oral sex on him to avoid arrest in December, the Citizens’ Voice newspaper reported. As the first of two storm systems hit California on Saturday, power was knocked out for tens of thousands, evacuation orders were issued and heavy rain, snow and high winds made driving treacherous.
A Ventura County search-and-rescue team member died in a crash about 7:30 Saturday morning on northbound Interstate 5, ABC 7 reported. Two other team members were injured, one of them critically and the other had minor injuries. Seven other people were involved in the crash that occurred near Pyramid Lake during a heavy rainstorm. Their conditions were unavailable.
FORT WORTH, TEXAS A Texas man who admitted to killing his estranged wife by tying a massive chunk of concrete to her and throwing her off a bridge into a lake has been sentenced to life in prison.

A truck driver is lucky to have escaped unharmed after he followed his GPS onto a small Arkansas bridge and wound up in a river.

Twitter has announced that it took down about 2,000 accounts in Venezuela, most of which it claimed were “engaged in a state-backed influence campaign.” This comes amid accusations of a US-led coup attempt.
The San Francisco-based social media giant released a blog post on Thursday saying that it removed 1,196 accounts located in Venezuela which it deemed to “appear to be engaged in a state-backed influence campaign targeting domestic audiences.” It also removed another 764 accounts, however, noted: “We are unable to definitively tie the accounts located in Venezuela to information operations of a foreign government against another country.” Continue reading “Twitter takes down hundreds of accounts linked to Venezuela amid US calls for regime change”
In response to reports this week that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) doesn’t plan to impose drinking water limits on two toxic chemicals linked to various forms of cancer and other health issues, 20 senators on Friday sent a letter to acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler imploring him to craft nationwide restrictions.
The chemicals in question are PFOA and PFOS, which belong to a group called PFAS. Politico reported Tuesday that Wheeler had signed off on an unreleased plan that would leave the pair off the list of materials regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The town of Atlanta, in anticipation of website hosting Sunday’s Tremendous Bowl, wasted a whopping $23 million on a pedestrian bridge for soccer lovers that may now be blocked off for the massive recreation on account of safety dangers.
The bridge — which was once to start with meant to price $13 million — connects Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and a public transit station. It was once meant to permit tens of hundreds of lovers to simply get entry to the stadium with no need to go 4 lanes of vehicular visitors. MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Thousands of U.S.-bound Central American migrants resumed their northern journey on Thursday, Mexico City officials said, part of a growing group of would-be asylum seekers who say they are fleeing violence and poverty back home.
Around 2,400 migrants left a city shelter to begin the journey from the Mexican capital early Thursday morning, the latest caravan to embark upon the risky path to the U.S.-Mexican border despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s determination to prevent them from entering. General Motors will start laying off approximately 4250 salaried employees from Monday morning.
The Detroit News reports that the layoffs form part of a broad restructuring effort and that involuntary separations will continue through February. The carmaker will also cut contract jobs through January, potentially leading to a total of up to 8000 job losses. RICHMOND — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) on Friday acknowledged appearing in a “clearly racist and offensive” photograph in his 1984 medical school yearbook that shows a man in blackface and another in a Ku Klux Klan robe.
“I am deeply sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo and for the hurt that decision caused then and now,” he said. “This behavior is not in keeping with who I am today and the values I have fought for throughout my career in the military, in medicine, and in public service. Two teen-age boys from the Chesterton area are in custody after police said they allegedly made a threat to the Valparaiso schools using social media Thursday, including posting a picture of weapons, police said.

NEWARK — Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, the former mayor of Newark who has projected an upbeat political presence at a deeply polarized time, entered the 2020 race for president on Friday, embarking on a campaign to become the nation’s second black president in a Democratic primary field that is the most diverse in American history.
Mr. Booker announced his candidacy on the first day of Black History Month to the sound of snare drums and with a clarion call for unity. In an email to supporters, he drew on the spirit of the civil rights movement as he laid out his vision for a country that will “channel our common pain back into our common purpose.”
“The history of our nation is defined by collective action; by interwoven destinies of slaves and abolitionists; of those born here and those who chose America as home; of those who took up arms to defend our country, and those who linked arms to challenge and change it,” Mr. Booker said in an accompanying video.

The FBI announced case closed this past Tuesday on the October 2017 the Las Vegas shooting, which left 58 people dead and over 800 injured. They produced a 3-page report that did not identify a motive or establish any forensic connection between the alleged weapons and any of the victims. Indeed, there has been no forensic proof presented by either the Las Vegas police or the FBI that the alleged killer Stephen Paddock was, in fact the killer.
