The Chinese government uses a number of measures to keep tabs on citizens. One is what’s known as a “citizen score” — a compilation of all the good/bad habits the government can track that determines whether a person should be viewed as a contributor to society or someone the government should take out of circulation.
We do the same thing here in the US. Credit scores determine who gets to live where and what vehicle they can own. It also can affect employment opportunities. This version of a “citizen score” is compiled by private parties who have access to information Americans are given no choice in relinquishing. Bush made a televised speech from the Oval Office announcing his administration’s escalation of the so-called “War on Drugs.” To illustrate the gravity of situation, Bush held up a bag of crack cocaine on live TV—drugs purchased, he told viewers, just steps from the White House where he now sat.
Bush’s speechwriters hit upon the idea of the visual aid days before the speech. Marlboro cigarette maker Altria is in early stage talks to acquire Canadian cannabis producer Cronos, as it seeks to diversify its business beyond traditional smokers, people familiar with the matter told CNBC.
Cronos has not agreed to any deal and there is no certainty it will do so, the people said.

Forty days ago, a woman returned to her home on Nova Scotia’s We’koqma’q First Nation to find her 22-year-old daughter, Cassidy Bernard – a new mother of infant twins – dead.
“Her daughter was murdered,” said Paula Marshall, executive director of the Mi’kmaq Legal Support Network.

The body of missing Bay Area broadcaster Ray Taliaferro was found, according to a family member on Sunday evening. The announcement was made on a GoFundMe page funding Taliaferro’s search.
“It is with great sadness that the Taliaferro family has to announce the passing of Ray Taliaferro. His bodywas found in Paducah, Kentucky in a wooded area approximately a mile from where he was last seen,” read the statement. To honor the death of America’s 41st President George H W Bush, President Trump has declared Wednesday to be a ‘National Day of Mourning’ for his predecessor, who died last night at age 94.
This is the first time since Hurricane Sandy in October 2012 that the stock market will be closed on a regular trading day. A spokesman for the New York Stock Exchange confirmed that markets would close in keeping with tradition. A majority of “non-citizens,” including those with legal green card rights, are tapping into welfare programs set up to help poor and ailing Americans, a Census Bureau finding that bolsters President Trump’s concern about immigrants costing the nation.
In a new analysis of the latest numbers, from 2014, 63 percent of non-citizens are using a welfare program, and it grows to 70 percent for those here 10 years or more, confirming another concern that once immigrants tap into welfare, they don’t get off it. Still bound and determined that the maritime incident last weekend in the Sea of Azov portends a full-scale war with Russia, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called on all NATO nations and other allied states to start relocating warships en masse to the sea to “assist Ukraine” in a conflict.
Poroshenko singled out Germany as nation that should rush warships to the area, saying that Germany needs to consider where Putin will strike next after taking over Ukraine.
