Eric Trump is slamming a Forbes report that alleges his charity, the Eric Trump Foundation, has been funneling donations — from donors who believed the money was going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — to the Trump Organization by paying high sums for use of Trump properties during fundraisers and re-donating some funds to charities friendly with Trump interests.
Forbes reported Tuesday that the Eric Trump Foundation paid the Trump family business hundreds of thousands of dollars over the last seven years for use of one of the organization’s golf courses, funds which he claimed were being donated nearly in full to the children’s cancer charity. Cigarette wholesalers are lobbying Massachusetts state lawmakers to support legislation that would force a soon-to-be cannabis industry to adopt the regulated infrastructure of the tobacco industry.
Recreational marijuana sales will be legal in Massachusetts in the middle of next year, and companies required by law to track, transport and tax cigarettes are pushing for the same federally-mandated, monopoly power over medical marijuana, the Boston Globe reported Tuesday. TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Gunmen and suicide bombers attacked Iran’s parliament and the shrine of its revolutionary leader on Wednesday, killing at least two people, wounding dozens and igniting an hours-long siege at the legislature that ended with four attackers dead.
The Islamic State group claimed the attacks, marking the first time the Sunni extremists have taken responsibility for an assault in Shiite-majority Iran. MADRID (AP) — Spain’s Banco Santander is paying the symbolic sum of 1 euro to take over local rival Banco Popular, a long-troubled lender whose shares lost more than half of their value over the past week.
In a statement on Wednesday, Santander said it will take over all the stock in Banco Popular, which had 305,152 shareholders as of the end of March. BERLIN (AP) — A civil rights group is asking German authorities to issue an arrest warrant for the recently appointed deputy director of the CIA over claims she oversaw the torture of terrorism suspects 15 years ago.
The nonprofit European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights submitted a legal brief to German federal prosecutors Tuesday, alleging that Gina Haspel allowed the waterboarding of prisoners at a secret U.S. detention center in Thailand. North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has instructed the North Korean air force to be ready to bomb enemy aircraft carriers.
North Korea recently held a combat flight contest for the commanding officers of the Korean People’s Army Air and Anti-Air Force, an event designed to make “all the flight commanding officers a match for a hundred fighters capable of destroying any targets, including enemy aircraft carriers,” according to the Korean Central News Agency. Cleveland, OH — A mother has filed a lawsuit after a Lakewood officer was caught on video brutally assaulting her child for no apparent reason. The entire incident, according to the lawsuit was over her wearing headphones.
Sabrina Robinson filed a lawsuit this week, alleging that officer Kevin Jones with the Lakewood police department violated her daughter’s civil rights when he grabbed her for no reason, put her in a headlock, smashed her face into the book cart on the way out, slamming her down and leaving her bleeding out on the concrete steps of the library.
