Authorities have detained a former US soldier accused of leading a gang of kidnappers in northern Mexico, officials said Monday.

The son of U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe was killed in a weekend plane crash in northeast Oklahoma, the U.S. Secretary of Defense confirmed.
Dr. Perry Inhofe, a 52-year-old orthopedic surgeon, died when the small plane he was piloting crashed Sunday near Owasso, a Tulsa suburb. Col. Last December in San Francisco, a few score protestors made a loud demonstration at the offices of Blum Capital Partners in North Beach to protest the closure and sale of historic post offices. Escorted by police on motorcycles, they marched downtown to U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s office. A common theme of the many speeches made that day was that Feinstein had somehow gotten her husband’s firm the contract to sell off the nation’s post offices. FactCheck.org checked the facts and announced that there was no evidence of any conflicts of interest with the CBRE contract. The United States has likely reached a grim but historic milestone in the war on terror: 1 million veterans injured from the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. But you haven’t heard this reported anywhere else. Why? Because the government is no longer sharing this information with the public.
All that can be said with any certainty is that as of last December more than 900,000 service men and women had been treated at Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics since returning from war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that the monthly rate of new patients to these facilities as of the end of 2012 was around 10,000. Beyond that, the picture gets murky. In March, VA abruptly stopped releasing statistics on non-fatal war casualties to the public. A new storm is set to hit the Philippines while the country still clears up the destruction wrought by Typhoon Haiyan.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Association (Pagasa) has issued a tropical cyclone warning, saying a tropical depression known as Zoraida is heading towards the country. NEW YORK—Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s final address at the Veterans Day ceremony at Madison Square Park was interrupted by a heckler on Monday.
The mayor, who arrived after the festivities started due to heavy traffic, was interrupted by mid-way through his short speech.
A man seated near the front and dressed in a camouflage jacket stood up just after Bloomberg congratulated Mayor-Elect Bill de Blasio on his victory. Several large-scale public executions of around 80 people have taken place in North Korea, according to a South Korean newspaper.
In one, woman and children were herded into a sports stadium and forced to watch people being shot dead by machine gun fire.
