Mr. Speaker, Mr. Vice President, Members of Congress, my fellow Americans:

We are fifteen years into this new century. Fifteen years that dawned with terror touching our shores; that unfolded with a new generation fighting two long and costly wars; that saw a vicious recession spread across our nation and the world. It has been, and still is, a hard time for many.

But tonight, we turn the page.   Continue reading “President Obama’s State of the Union Address — Remarks As Prepared for Delivery”

Despite laws that prohibit them, new technology and other protections, consumers still complain on a daily basis about robocalls and the inability to halt them. And it just might get worse. Some businesses want to aim for your cellphones.

Consumers have long had the support of government to try to control these calls, chiefly through the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, which actually allows consumers to file lawsuits and collect penalties from companies that pepper them with robocalls or text messages they didn’t agree to receive.   Continue reading “If You Hate Robocalls, You’ll Really Hate This Idea”

In Dog we TrustSaint Peter’s Blog – by Janelle Irwin

It’s become almost cool to dis God. He’s even got a satirical Facebook page dedicated to making the deity look like a tool. Who knew the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was going to unknowingly jump on that bandwagon?

The agency just laid out some new snazzy rugs at its administration building. The gold badge set on a green background shows the seal of Florida with the “In God We Trust” slogan at the bottom.

There’s one problem though. It doesn’t say God. It says Dog.   Continue reading “Sorry God, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office puts its trust in Dog”

By all accounts, I shouldn’t have hit the dummy target 300 yards downrange because everything was working against me. For starters, the Las Vegas desert was windy as hell. Factor in that I was shaking thanks to nerves, cold temperatures and the pressure of a camera rolling while I tried something brand-new and you have a recipe for failure. Or should have. While I can barely pull off a headshot in a video game, I nailed one on my first try with TrackingPoint’s high-powered, precision-guided rifle. Once the initial wave of “Holy shit!” wore off, something else replaced my elation: I didn’t feel I’d earned that bull’s-eye because basically all I had to do was pull the trigger. On my way back into Sin City, I couldn’t get over just how cold and emotionless that left me feeling.   Continue reading “Shooting a laser-guided rifle made me feel like a robot”
