The Oglala Sioux Tribe has become the first tribe in South Dakota to legalize same-sex marriage.
The Oglala Sioux Tribal Council passed a same-sex marriage ordinance July 8 in a 12-3 vote with one abstention — which amends the marital and domestic law that hasn’t changed since 1935 on Pine Ridge Reservation. Two days later, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Law and Order Committee passed a resolution recommending that the tribe adopt a hate crime ordinance modeled on the Matthew Shepard Act, which provides federal protections for sexual orientation and gender identity. SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — The chief of a California police department says she left her gun in a restroom and it was immediately stolen and now officials are looking for a man seen in restaurant surveillance video leaving shortly after the weapon vanished.

Scientists and researchers at NASA, NOAA, and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) have been warning that the wireless industry’s use of select bands for 5G could interfere with transmissions of weather-satellite imagery. In a letter (pdf) sent to the FCC last month, warning that the industry’s plan to use 24GHz band could severely hamper weather forecasting. During a launch from Mount Borah in Australia, a paraglider pilot was caught off guard when a dirt devil swept him off his feet.

An 11-year-old boy, who was home alone when three people broke into his family’s North Carolina residence, turned the tables on the alleged criminals when he grabbed a machete and whacked one of them in the head, officials said.

Authorities say one person is behind bars and three suspects are still being sought after a long pursuit in southern South Dakota.
The pursuit began Sunday night on Highway 50 near Tyndall.
