No one can say how many guns are in Saskatchewan, or who owns them.

RCMP suspected that John Strang had killed his wife and was likely armed when they pulled him over on a road near North Battleford, Sask., in August 2015.

They were right on both counts.

Strang had shot his wife, Lisa, twice with a .357 Magnum at their home in McLean, Sask., about 40 kilometres east of Regina.   Continue reading “Killer’s gun arsenal highlights challenges facing police in tracking weapons”

The Pentagon says the country should stick with mandatory registration for a military draft, and it advocates a requirement for women to sign up for the first time in the nation’s history.

The recommendations are contained in a Defense Department report to Congress that serves as a starting point for a commission examining military, national and public service.

Congress ordered the Pentagon report, and the office of the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness completed it in the early months of the Trump administration.   Continue reading “Pentagon advocates requiring women to sign up for military draft”

In a Facebook post Monday, Chilliwack school trustee Barry Neufeld denounced members of B.C.’s education system as “radical cultural nihilists” for their policies on gender rights and education.

“At the risk of being labelled a bigoted homophobe, I have to say that I support traditional family values and I agree with the College of Pediatricians that letting little children choose to change gender is nothing short of child abuse,” wrote Neufeld.   Continue reading “Chilliwack school trustee: Allowing children to ‘change gender is nothing short of child abuse’”

The Communications Security Establishment (CSE) rarely goes into detail about its activities — both offensive and defensive — and much of what is known about the agency’s activities have come from leaked documents obtained by U.S. National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden and published in recent years.   Continue reading “Canada’s ‘super secret spy agency’ is releasing a malware-fighting tool to the public”

Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, called for the United States to implement an Australian-style gun confiscation program in an article published Wednesday.

Obama previously said in 2016 that the United States should consider following the example of Australia, which enacted a “mandatory buy-back” of guns and created a gun registry. Pfeiffer echoed that view in Wednesday’s article, published on Crooked, a media site founded by three former Obama staffers. Pfeiffer argued Democrats should propose such a program and outlined an extensive regimen of gun restrictions that Democrats could support, advising they stop “insincere pandering” to gun owners.   Continue reading “Fmr.
